Job Description

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

The Alumni Relations department at the Boston Red Sox oversees outreach to Alumni by connecting them with the Red Sox organization, appearance opportunities and charitable causes. In addition, this department manages and highlights the club’s historic collections.

The Archives and Collections Assistant is a part-time position that is crucial in assisting the Team Curator with the Club’s artifact collection to help to tell the story of the Red Sox & Fenway Park’s rich history. This position will assist and be responsible for inventorying recent acquisitions as well as preserving existing collections. The Archives and Collection Assistant will also assist in overseeing and creating exhibits to display and highlight the archives and its collection. The ideal candidate is independent, mission-driven, and enthusiastic about baseball history and collections.

The hourly rate for this position is $18.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support Curator with collections management, data entry, exhibit preparation/ installation and administrative assistance.
  • Assist with day-to-day collections tasks including filing and rehousing.
  • Assist staff with additional projects as determined.
  • Occasionally serve as support for educational programming and outreach.
  • 15 hours/ week, paid. Additional hours may be available.
  • Regular hours between 9-5 on weekdays. Some weekends and special events as needed.

CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recent undergraduate degree or master’s program in a related field (Museum Studies, Public History, Archival Science).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is essential.
  • Cataloguing and database experience a plus (PastPerfect).
  • Knowledge of/ or interest in baseball history.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and must be organized, flexible, detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on various projects simultaneously.
