Job Description

We Go Beyond for A Safer World

Te Tūranga - The Role

Architectural Design Engineer

We're seeking an experienced Architectural Design Engineer to shape the architectural backbone of Tait's digital ecosystem.

Digital services can't succeed as standalone applications. They must sit within a connected, scalable platform that allows new services to launch quickly, without fragmenting systems or customer experience. As Tait accelerates its digital ambition, this role is critical to ensuring we build once, reuse often, and scale with confidence.

In this role, you will define how shared platform capabilities are designed, integrated, and exposed across our digital landscape. You'll enable product teams to move fast and operate independently, while working within a coherent, well-governed architecture that delivers seamless, end‑to‑end customer solutions.

This is a hands-on Solutions Architecture role in a fast-moving environment. You won't be a gatekeeper, you'll enable experimentation and innovation by establishing pragmatic patterns that evolve through real-world delivery.

The duties of the role will include:

  • Defining architectural principles that underpin Tait's multi-platform digital ecosystem.
  • Establishing service boundaries and domain structures that support scalable, microservice-based development.
  • Designing integration approaches across APIs, event streams, and service interactions to ensure cross-platform compatibility.
  • Defining how shared capabilities such as identity, entitlements, commerce, device integration, and data services are structured and exposed.
  • Architecting the integration of dependencies so individual platform developments contribute to a cohesive external solution.
  • Ensuring presentation layers (portals, applications, partner integrations) remain decoupled from backend services.
  • Creating architectural guardrails and governance frameworks that enable product teams to innovate independently while maintaining platform integrity.
  • Working with engineering teams to test, refine, and iterate architectural patterns through practical implementation using a fail-fast approach.
  • Collaborating closely with product management, engineering, and security teams to support both technical scalability and commercial growth.

Ō pūkenga - About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

As well as:

Required:

  • Experience designing and operating microservice-based architectures within complex platform ecosystems.
  • Expertise in OSS/BSS system integration, business and operations workflow and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of API-first and event-driven integration models.
  • Proven ability to structure digital platforms around reusable capabilities and service domains.
  • Experience supporting decentralized development across multiple product teams.
  • Ability to translate high-level architectural principles into practical engineering patterns and delivery approaches.
  • Experience working in environments that support rapid experimentation and iterative development.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage dependencies across multiple digital platforms to deliver unified customer solutions.

Highly regarded:

  • Experience working with SaaS architectures, developer platforms, or mission-critical digital ecosystems.
  • Experience designing platform strategies in large-scale digital environments.
