This is a hands-on technical leadership position for an architectural professional who understands how to produce, coordinate and deliver accurate construction documents for fast-paced, repeat-client retail programs. The Technical Manager will help establish project standards, oversee technical execution and guide project teams from early documentation through permitting and construction administration.

The ideal candidate will have between 5 and 15 years of architectural experience, with a strong background in retail, commercial or multi-site rollout projects. Candidates do not need to be licensed architects; however, they must demonstrate strong technical knowledge, construction-document expertise and the ability to lead projects and support production teams.

This position offers the opportunity to become a trusted technical resource for one of MCG Architecture’s most important client accounts while contributing to additional retail projects across the firm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a detailed understanding of each client’s design criteria, prototype standards, specifications and construction requirements.
  • Maintain consistency across multiple projects, locations and project teams.
  • Help translate client standards and program requirements into accurate, permit-ready construction documents.
  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical guidance regarding design execution, documentation, permitting and construction issues.
  • Build strong working relationships with client representatives, consultants, contractors and internal project teams.
  • Help identify recurring project challenges and develop practical, repeatable solutions.

Construction Document Management

  • Lead the technical development of architectural construction documents from schematic design through permit and construction.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, coordination, constructability and compliance with client standards.
  • Establish project documentation expectations, drawing organization and quality-control procedures.
  • Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil and other consultant documents.
  • Review project details, wall sections, schedules, specifications and code-related information.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information and potential construction conflicts before documents are issued.
  • Support the preparation of permit submissions, bid documents, addenda and construction revisions.
  • Manage prototype adaptations and site-specific modifications for multiple retail locations.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control

  • Perform detailed quality-control reviews of drawing packages and technical documentation.
  • Confirm that documents comply with applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, client standards and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Help create and maintain technical standards, drawing templates, checklists, details and best practices.

  • Monitor project progress and help ensure that technical deliverables remain on schedule.
  • Coordinate workload and production needs across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Work closely with project leadership to manage scope, schedule, quality and client expectations.
  • Escalate technical, scheduling or coordination concerns before they affect project delivery.
  • Help create an environment of accountability, collaboration and technical excellence.

Code and Technical Compliance

  • Review projects for compliance with the Florida Building Code, International Building Code, accessibility standards, life-safety requirements and applicable local codes.
  • Research code requirements and assist teams in resolving code interpretations.
