The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a registered Architect for our State Construction Division. The State Construction Division is responsible for the administration of planning, design, and construction of all state facilities, including the university and community college systems. This division also provides the architectural and engineering services necessary to carry out the Capital Improvement Program for all state institutions and agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

This position serves in the Consulting Services Section of the State Construction Office. The position's primary purpose is to serve as Senior Architect for the Department of Administration (DOA) Capital Improvement (CI) program and to provide architectural services for buildings in the Government Complex assigned to DOA. Activities include analysis of building architectural systems including roofs, building exteriors, fenestrations, elevators, interior finishes, hardware for solving problems with these systems and developing scope and cost estimates for related Capital Improvements projects. Another important function is the Owner review of DOA construction project plans and specifications and Owner project management of DOA construction projects, including responsibility of verifying compliance with current building codes. This position will be assigned to the more complex DOA construction projects. Position is also required to work closely with DOA Facility Management staff to offer solutions and recommendations to challenging building systems problems.

  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of Architecture and Building Systems.

  • Working knowledge of International Building Code and NC State Building Codes, Industry Standards, general construction policies and guidelines, and North Carolina General Statutes on public construction.

  • Experience working and collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Experience in technical writing and written communication, constructive and appropriate negotiations, public speaking and giving oral presentations to small or large groups.

  • Experience to readily discern discrepancies in technical documents or data, provide objective professional opinions and judgments when presented factual data, and maintain working relationships with officials, committees, and representatives in both private and public sectors.

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCE:

Preferred applicant will have the ability to navigate various web-based and internal databases, including lnterscope, State Property systems, and FCAP. Management prefers at least 2 documented years of progressive professional and administrative experience in the practice of Architecture and Building Systems. A minimum of 3 years documented experience in the design of varied building types is desired.

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid NC Driver's License. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License or acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.

  • Valid license to practice architecture granted by the North Carolina Board of Architecture & Registered Interior Designers. Must include proof of licensure in application submittal

  • Possession of a Level Ill North Carolina Inspector Certificate issued by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board, or the ability to obtain within three (3) years of employment.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in architecture or an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience as a registered architect; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications - Valid license to practice architecture granted by the North Carolina Board of Architecture.
