
The Archdiocese of Baltimore is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Architect to join the Division of Facilities and Real Estate This position will serve as an Owner’s Representative, providing professional project management services to pastors, principals, and presidents of parishes and schools across the Archdiocese.
The Architect will oversee capital projects, including new construction, site work, building renovations, and HVAC, window, and roof replacements, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with the mission and values of the Archdiocese. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively with parish and school stakeholders at all levels, including volunteers and staff.
Essential Functions
•Project Oversight: Manage projects from concept to completion, including planning, design, permitting, procurement, construction, and closeout.
•Owner’s Representation: Act as the primary liaison between the Archdiocese, consultants, contractors, and parish and school leadership, ensuring effective communication and alignment of goals.
•Planning & Coordination: Assist parishes and schools in defining project scopes, budgets, and schedules, working within available funding and ensuring compliance with Archdiocesan policies and guidelines.
•Design & Construction Management: Oversee architectural, engineering, and construction teams, reviewing designs and plans to ensure feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to building codes and church requirements.
•Budgeting & Cost Control: Develop and manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure financial accountability throughout project execution.
•Vendor & Contractor Oversight: Procure and manage third-party consultants, architects, engineers, and contractors, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to contract terms.
•Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including zoning laws, environmental considerations, and safety requirements.
•Stakeholder Engagement: Work collaboratively with pastors, school leaders, parish councils, and volunteers, fostering strong relationships and ensuring projects meet their needs.
•Problem Solving: Identify challenges and develop solutions to keep projects on track while balancing the unique operational and financial constraints of parish and school facilities
Position Qualification
Education & Certifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
•AIA licensure or PE (Professional Engineer) certification preferred.
Experience & Skills
•Minimum of 5+ years of experience in project management, architecture, or engineering within the construction industry.
•Strong understanding of building design, construction processes, and facility maintenance.
•Experience managing capital improvement projects, renovations, and new construction.
•Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including parish and school staff, volunteers, and leadership teams.
•Strong financial and budgeting skills, with the ability to develop cost estimates and manage project expenses.
•Proficiency in project management software, Microsoft Office, and construction document review tools.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present project plans and updates to stakeholders.
•Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability in a faith-based, mission-driven environment.
Work Environment & Travel
•This position is based in Baltimore, MD, with regular travel to parishes, schools, and project sites throughout the Archdiocese.
•Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed.
•Some evening and weekend work may be required based on project needs.
Salary Range $100,000 - $110,000, Annualized
