Job Description

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging environment! At Jockey Hollow, there are 212 pristine acres to explore and enjoy. With a large "L"-shaped swimming pool, Low Ropes Challenge Course and Zip Line, beautiful equestrian center, archery range, playing field, and adventurous hiking trails, the fun is endless!

This position is responsible to further the mission of camp through assisting in the development and delivery of non-competitive archery skills that are safe, fun, and appropriate to campers’ ages and abilities, and ensuring safety and wellbeing of campers following New Jersey Department of Health and Youth Camp Services and Girl Scouts of USA. They are responsible for the supervision and care of campers during designated/specific activities and facilitating delivery of programs within a unit/small group. Immediate Supervisor: Program Director


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend all sessions required of position at Pre-Camp Orientation.
  • Carries out activities as assigned by Program Director regarding program.
  • Is responsible for the supervision of the archery area.
  • Effectively communicate and work with a diverse group of staff and campers (background/abilities) to encourage full participation in Girl Scouting.
  • Maintain communication with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Jr. Counselors regarding camper behavior and supervision.
  • Develop lesson plans for archery sessions.
  • Responsible for care of equipment, inventory, and recommendations of equipment available or needed.
  • Promotes high staff and camper morale.
  • Keeps records, makes reports and certificates necessary.
  • Participates in pre-camp training, and in-services.
  • May participate in assisting and developing other programs as authorized.
  • Submits seasonal report and evaluation of program activities.
  • Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Daily Rate: $123 (new staff) - $128 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $16.40 - $17.07 per hour respectively.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Certification in archery with USA Archery (training and certification provided by camp prior to camp season).
  • Additional training in Challenge Course with The Adventure Guild is preferred (training and certification provided by camp prior to camp season).
  • Ability to schedule and develop program for archery.
  • Ability to use sound judgment regarding safety procedures and knowledge of the sport.
  • Knowledge of Girl Scouting preferred.
  • Leadership skills, and proven instructional experience.
  • Individual must be in adequate physical condition to perform duties.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain current certification of standard First Aid and CPR (training to be provided).

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
