Job Description

The Activities & Recreation Center (ARC) is hiring for the 2025-2026 academic year. The ARC is a place for campus to connect through community and play. The ARC is the hub of student life on campus; a place for students to gather, socialize, dine, and exercise. This position is open to all currently enrolled Cascadia College and University of Washington-Bothell students.

ARC Events Crew provides crucial day-of event support to a wide range of activities in the ARC. Events Crew members provide technical support for ARC events, utilizing technical skills, customer service, and knowledge of the Activities and Recreation Center facility.

Events Crew members are assigned to specific events in the ARC and serve as our main point of contact during events. Students in this position must make responsible decisions regarding events with little supervision while working in complex technical and logistical environments.

Events Crew members also provide furniture setup, takedown, staging, and cleaning. Events Crew works as a team to ensure that event setup details are carried out safely, completely, and efficiently.

Pay Rate: $21.50/hr

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

AV Technical Support

  • Set up and tear down ARC AV Equipment for events (e.g., microphones, laptops, projectors, speakers, subwoofers, lighting, and AV cabling).
  • Operate ARC AV equipment including sound and lighting consoles.
  • Solve technical problems under pressure, occasionally on-stage or in front of an audience.
  • Follow detailed instructions to ensure proper setup of AV technology for events.

Event Operations

  • Serve as a point of contact for event attendees and event coordinators during events in the ARC, providing customer service and logistical support.
  • Provide general operations support for the ARC, including resetting public spaces after events, reconfiguring non-public spaces as needed, vacuuming, servicing trash cans, furniture and equipment moves, etc.
  • Work from a complex set of directions, including diagrams and daily room schedules, both independently and in teams, to complete room sets in a timely manner.
  • Ensure equipment is stored and properly inventoried at the end of each event.
  • Maintain tidy and organized work area and storage areas.
  • General knowledge of ARC policy and procedures; work with building managers and professional staff to enforce ARC policy as needed.

Customer Service

  • Create a safe and respectful environment for ARC patrons and guests.
  • Provide exceptional customer service for all ARC patrons; greet those who enter the facility, answer questions, and provide support during events.
  • Provide information on upcoming events and programs, building services, hours of operation, building policies and procedures, Cascadia College and UW Bothell campus amenities, etc.
  • Handle patron concerns and/or direct them to the appropriate resource for assistance.
  • Ensure safe operation of events and compliance with ARC policy and local fire code.

Crewmember Responsibilities

  • Respond to calls, messages, and emails from other ARC staff concerning technology in event spaces and conference rooms.
  • Attend regular scheduling meetings and ongoing technical training.
  • Provide productive feedback and participate in verbal debriefs with your fellow crew members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (accommodations available)

  • Currently enrolled student at Cascadia College or University of Washington Bothell; taking a minimum of 6 credits in Winter Quarter 2026. Must be in good academic and conduct/behavioral standing.
  • Attentive, curious, strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working with AV technology (e.g., microphones, speaker systems, mixers, projectors, and theatrical lighting) and/or other aspects of supporting campus events.
  • Ability to work independently and with within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to adhere to a variable work schedule with some morning/late and night/weekend hour and be accountable for all assigned shifts.
  • Ability to move and lift equipment up to 50 pounds. This is a highly physical position that may require bending/twisting at the waist, kneeling, and the ability to reach/work above one’s head.

Preferred Qualifications (helpful, but not required)

  • Experience with event technology or adjacent fields. This can include audio engineering, lighting design, theater experience, music performance, and home setups for movies or gaming.
  • Food service or other service industry experience.
  • Experience with gig work and/or a crew-based environment.
  • Regularly attends events in the ARC and/or ARC programs (Outdoor Wellness, Fitness, Intramurals)
  • Academic coursework and projects related to events, audio, video, lighting, theater, film, or electrical engineering.
