WSP is seeking an Arborist to join our Ontario team in the Greater Toronto Area. We’re looking for a candidate with both consulting and field experience interested in contributing to the growth of our integrated Landscape Architecture, Arboriculture and Urban Forestry practice. Our ideal candidate is familiar with legislative frameworks (Toronto, GTA, Southern Ontario) and is keen to contribute to environmentally conscientious Arboriculture practice, particularly in the realm of Urban Forestry. The role offers a balance of field and office work in a collaborative environment alongside our in-house Urban Planning, Engineering and Environmental groups. Your Impact

  • We are an agile team and are currently working under a hybrid model combining in-person team collaboration days with work-from-home options.
  • You will work closely and collaboratively with Senior Arborists, Ecologists, and Landscape Architects on a wide range of project types to:
  • Complete tree inventories, assessments and related arboriculture field work
  • Respond to tree protection by-law stipulations to determine study scope and prepare tree removal permits
  • Contribute to development of arboriculture and urban forestry policies for our clients
  • Assess impacts to trees from proposed developments and infrastructure
  • Arborist report writing, proposal and occasional presentation preparation
  • Attend meetings as an arboriculture representative for WSP
  • Interpretation and assessment of Species at Risk requirements and implications on projects
  • Prepare Tree Preservation and Restoration Plans
  • Pursuit of Arborist specific proposals
  • Provide guidance on the implementation of tree protection measures, including visits to site when required

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • A Degree or Diploma in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture or Landscape Technology; or similar, relevant education
  • 3+ years of professional experience working in consulting arboriculture (recent graduates with strong, relevant work experience may also be considered)
  • Designation as an ISA Certified Arborist (attained or in progress)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience working in CAD to develop Tree Preservation and Restoration Plans
  • Strong tree identification and assessment skills
  • Project Management skills (time/task management, invoicing, etc.)
  • Experience working with private and public sector clients in delivery of Arboriculture services
  • Strong understanding of Municipal Tree By-Laws and Conservation Authority regulations regarding tree impacts
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the GTA/Southern Ontario to visit project sites
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork independently on a variety of sites
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and contribute positively to office activities, initiatives, and learning opportunities.

The following qualifications are strongly desired:

  • Professional designation as a Forester, Urban Forester, or equivalent
  • Experience performing Butternut Health Assessment (BHA)
  • Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency with GIS, including GIS software and hand-held GPS units

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $72 800 – $97 900

MB & ON: $66 500 – $92 800

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $65 800 – 88 600
