and Purpose
The Chargemaster Coordinator will ensure data integrity between the Charge Description Master (CDM) and the health system ancillary data systems. The coordinator manages changes made to the CDM through automated requests, researches coding and revenue reporting requirements, develops and maintains a collaborative working relationship with facilities personnel, information system staff, revenue integrity staff, management and preferred vendors. They process and maintain timely turnaround for all CDM requests and ensures that all additions, changes and deletions are consistent and compliant for billing.
Essential Functions:
• Maintains responsibility for all data entry and maintenance of the Charge Description Master files within the Patient Accounting systems
• Maintains responsibility for validating and standardizing revenue code, pricing, CPT-4, HCPCS and multipliers are accurate and up to date
• Adheres to billing requirements and standards of compliance including assignment of revenue codes and CPT-4/HCPC codes
• Assists with internal and external auditing; reviews denials and errors, makes corrections and coordinates discussions with Senior Charge Master Analyst and Revenue Cycle leadership
• Participates in testing of new CDMs and assures interfaces are passing to the accurate account
Other Functions:
• Participates in annual chargemaster review, implementing pricing changes at the beginning of the fiscal year with the Senior Charge Master Analyst
• Distributes monthly CDM to each revenue department, i.e. surgery, radiology, lab and HIM
• Collaborates on uploading the CDM to the CDM on-line tool for periodic updates
• Attends seminars as requested
• Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Charge Master Analyst and Revenue Cycle leadership
Job Requirements
(Education, Experience, Licensure and Certification)
Education:
• High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent (required)
• Associate degree in related field (preferred)
Experience:
• Two (2) years recent experience in the healthcare industry performing CDM-related tasks, or other revenue cycle functions (preferred)
Certifications:
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (preferred)
Job Competency:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities critical to this role:
• Knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) / Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) and Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APC) codes, modifiers, and billing regulations
• Ability to research coding and regulatory requirements
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong organization skills and ability to follow-up to ensure completion of tasks
• Able to proactively prioritize tasks in a continuously changing environment
• Ability to completes tasks by deadline
Language Ability:
• Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to break down problems or tasks; using prior knowledge and experience to identify causes and consequences of events
Computer Skills:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel functions, Word, PowerPoint)
• Must have the capacity to learn other relevant systems and databases, as needed
