Lifeguard

JOB TITLE: Aquatics Lifeguard

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt – Part Time

DEPARTMENT: CRE/Aquatics

SUPERVISOR: Aquatics Manager

SALARY: $15.50 Per Hour

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. Provides general customer service for the patrons at the aquatic facility.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Maintains crowd control in the event of an emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Documents and reports all incidents including but not limited to medical, facility, patron safety, and janitorial concerns.
  • Answers phone in polite and professional manner and relays pertinent information to supervisor or management.
  • Inspects and cleans locker rooms, cabana areas, front lobby, pool decks, and all other areas of facility grounds.
  • Report all lost and found items to the front counter personnel or Aquatic Supervisor.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly pool maintenance and water chemistry checklists.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Basic aquatic facility structure.
    • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
    • Obtain and maintain a current lifeguard, First-Aid and CPR/AED certification.
    • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
    • Respond to requests and inquiries from the public.
    • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
      • Swimming requirements to maintain lifeguard certification and skills.
      • General lifting of no more than 50lbs with assistance of other employees.
      • Ability to climb stairs and ladders to elevated guard chairs.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Required:

None

Preferred

One (1) or more years of lifeguarding at an indoor/outdoor Aquatic Facility

Current Lifeguard, First-Aid, and CPR/AED certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

Working Environment

Aquatic facility that will include loud, constant noises, higher humidity levels. Working from a taller height can be required.
