This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the patrons in the pool area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth
- Complete required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities & supervising youth
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
- All duties of Lifeguard and Instructor
- Train and mentor Lifeguards and Instructors
- Work under direction of the Coordinator of Lifeguard and Certifications to assist with the monthly in-services on a rotating schedule
- Run Red Ball/Zone/Pool Counts evaluation drills
- Perform other duties as assigned
- A 40-hour work week is the expectation
- While lifeguarding will be the primary function of this position, there will be an opportunity to teach swim lessons, private lessons, and water fitness classes based on the candidate's qualifications.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. On occasion up to 50lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- The employee must be able to respond quickly to any emergency situation and be willing to administer any first aid or care under the scope of their training.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen and Blood Borne Pathogen training required within 60 days of employment
- Child Abuse Prevention training required before/on first day of working with consumers
- At least 18 years of age
- Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard
- Certified YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor preferred (required within first 90 days)
- Pass a skills test upon hire including, but not limited to: 300-yard swim and submerged passive rescue
- Work for the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana or a reputable Aquatics facility for a minimum of 12 months and demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures
