Amid a dynamic and ever-evolving urban landscape, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department stewards one of the premier urban park systems in America. In 2017, San Francisco became the first city in the nation where all residents have access to a park within a 10-minute walk, a direct result of the Department’s commitment to increasing and improving parkland in the city Learn More. Considered by San Franciscans to be one of the City’s most popular and effective public agencies, our Department currently manages more than 230 parks, playgrounds and open spaces throughout San Francisco, including two outside city limits—Sharp Park in Pacifica and Camp Mather in the High Sierras. The system includes full-complex recreation centers, swimming pools, golf courses, sports fields and numerous small-to-medium-sized clubhouses that offer a variety of sports- and arts-related recreation programs for people of all ages. Included in the Department’s responsibilities are Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, the Marina Yacht Harbor, the San Francisco Zoo and Lake Merced.

The 3215 Aquatics Facility Supervisor directs, administers and supervises the activities, operations and maintenance of an assigned aquatic facility. Responsibilities include the development, preparation, execution, and supervision of all aquatics-related programs and staff; and oversight of facility maintenance.

Requires sufficient strength and coordination to perform rescue operations, CPR, and First Aid; will have exposure to water, indoor noise levels, outdoor working conditions, chemicals, and mechanical hazards.
These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification.

Additional qualifying experience as described may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis. Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year (2000 hours).

Failure to show proof of possession of a current/valid First Aid for Public Safety Personnel and Aquatic Facility Operator/Certified Pool Operator certification after six (6) months from the date of hire, and throughout the length of employment, may result in termination.
All employees must maintain all current/valid required certifications throughout their employment. Failure to demonstrate or provide proof of current/valid certifications may result in termination.

After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following.
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ): Candidates will be required to complete a MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications and can be accessed using the following link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/g/gGz38UhsBr.
Applicants must also complete the official application. It is essential that applicants provide complete information in identifying their education, experience and training. The MQSQ should be submitted at the time of the application, but no later than the application deadline as stated above. Failure to submit the MQSQ along with the application may result in the rejection of your application.
Basic Supervisory Exam (Weight 50%): Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a written multiple-choice examination that is designed to measure basic knowledge of various supervisory practices and procedures (e.g. directing, counseling, guiding, evaluating, motivating, disciplining, developing and training subordinates, delegation, etc.) as well as customer service and reading comprehension.
This computer-administered exam can be taken at home or at a time and location of their convenience, but only within the time period specified on the exam notification. Candidates must have access to a computer and reliable internet connection to participate in this exam. Candidates without access to a computer should contact the analyst as soon as possible for accommodation.
This is a standardized examination and, therefore, test questions and answers are not available for public inspection or review.
The score you achieve on this examination shall be valid and 'banked' for three years, starting from the date of the examination. This means that, during this three-year time period, you will not be required to take this test again should you apply and be found eligible for a future announcement for which this particular test is used. Please note this test is used for other supervisory classes, therefore your test score may be applied to one or more of these classes if you choose to apply to future recruitments. If the test for this future announcement is held within one year of the date of this examination, your score will be automatically applied to that announcement. However, after one year, you have the option to either (a) apply your test score to the other announcement or (b) re-take the test. Re-testing is permitted no sooner than one year from the date of the examination and only in association with your eligibility for another announcement for which this test is used. Please note that, should you re-test, your re-test score will become your official score since it is the most recent.
Training & Experience Examination (Weight: 50%): Applicants who attain a passing score on the Basic Supervisory Examination will receive an online exam link to complete the Training & Experience Examination. The exam is designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas.
The Training & Experience exam link will be emailed to the email address listed on the candidate’s online application. Candidates will be required to complete the Training & Experience Examination within the indicated time frame and must submit the completed questionnaire as directed for evaluation. Responses cannot be changed once submitted.
A passing score must be achieved on both the Basic Supervisory Examination and the Training & Experience Examination in order to be placed and ranked on the eligible list. Candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score.
Note: Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed to advance through all of the steps in the selection process.
Certification: The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of Three. Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.
A confidential eligible list of applicant names who have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be of 12 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
