Dive into an exciting opportunity as an Aquatics Coordinator at the Greater Austin YMCA. Guided by the Aquatics Director, you will lead our aquatics team and oversee programs that create a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience for members. From swim lessons to swim team activities, you will help individuals of all ages and abilities build confidence and reach their potential in the water.

Availability Expectations

This is a seasonal, full-time position serving as an Aquatics Coordinator during the summer season. The coordinator must have flexible availability during pool hours and maintain reliable attendance throughout the summer. Full availability is strongly preferred to ensure consistent support for our aquatics team.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Support high-quality member experience across aquatics programs and operations.
  • Communicate program and operations information to members; assist with marketing and distribution of materials.
  • Address complaints and resolve member issues professionally.
  • Monitor program registration, manage related paperwork, and respond to calls/emails.
  • Oversee program implementation, quality, and pool availability scheduling in Motion Vibe.
  • Compile program reports, statistics, and maintain required staff certifications on file.
  • Assist with employment paperwork, staff scheduling, securing substitutes, and staff communications.
  • Help conduct performance appraisals, discipline, and ongoing training with the Aquatics Director.
  • Support pool maintenance as needed.
  • Ensure swim instructors follow curriculum, complete progress tracking, and provide report cards/certificates.
  • Evaluate instructors and programs quarterly; lead monthly in-services and support staff development.
  • Lead and manage swim programs with assistance from Lead Staff.
  • Participate in planning, meetings, in-services, and training sessions.
  • Audit staff to ensure consistent program quality and compliance (including YSLI V6 certification within 3 months).
  • Assist in ensuring enrollment minimums are met.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Y

  • Relevant experience, certifications, and practical skills in aquatic programming and management.
  • Two to three years of professional experience, with a focus on aquatics and previous experience in supervising and leading teams.
  • Current BLS (CPR-PRO), First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, and/or Swim Instructor certifications.
  • Must be able to obtain CPO within 3 months.
  • YLGI, YSLIT certifications preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate lifeguard and rescue skills effectively in and out of the water.

Physical Requirements:

The role requires comfort working in a pool environment, with exposure to water, chlorine, and varying temperatures. Lifeguard Instructors must be able to stand, walk, swim, and remain alert for extended periods. The position involves hearing and distinguishing distress signals, visually scanning all areas of the pool, and responding quickly to emergencies. Additionally, it requires lifting and moving equipment, children, and performing other physical tasks related to pool supervision and instruction. Effective verbal communication, including projecting your voice across distances in both normal and noisy conditions, is essential.
