POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for a lead lifeguard to join our aquatics team. In this role you will act as the on-site supervisor when no other manager is present, guiding lifeguards and swim instructors and ensuring that the pool area runs safely and smoothly. This is a part-time year-round position located at the YMCA.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Here at the Y, we host many aquatics programs, including swim lessons for all ages, swim lessons for children with special needs, safety around water courses, a swim team, Arthritic Splash, Aquafit, Power Aqua Fitness, Aqua Zumba and even a lifeguard certification course! We offer year-round programming at our indoor pool locations: Centennial Hills and SkyView. During the summer season we have outdoor pools at Durango Hills, Heinrich, and Centennial.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the supervision of aquatic staff and volunteers. Report any concerns to the aquatic director.
Act as a role model among staff, members, and guests.
Ensure that YMCA Aquatics Safety policies and pool operating procedures are enforced at all times. Safety of participants and employees is the single overriding objective.
Assist aquatics director with leading lifeguard in-service training.
Assumes responsibility when the aquatics director or coordinator are absent.
Communicates directives and policy to staff and the public.
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children.
Attend required abuse risk management training.
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse.
Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.

You will need sufficient strength, agility and mobility to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
You will need the visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
You will need to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. You will need to reach with hands or arms. You will also need to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
You will occasionally need lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, you will regularly work in outside weather conditions and may be regularly exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. You will be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. You will be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
High school degree or equivalent (or in progress)
At least six months of aquatic experience
Ability to swim 500 yards consecutively once per week
Current American Red Cross Deep Water Lifeguarding Certification with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid
Oxygen Certification (within 30 days of hire)
At least 17 years of age
