About Goldfish Swim School

At Goldfish Swim School, we're passionate about helping children build confidence, learn essential water safety skills, and have fun in the water! We provide swim lessons for children ages 4 months to 12 years in a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment.

Behind every great swim lesson is a well-maintained facility, and that's where you come in!

We're looking for an experienced, proactive Facility Maintenance Technician to help keep our schools safe, functional, and operating at their best. If you're a hands-on problem solver who enjoys variety, takes pride in your work, and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-location environment, we'd love to meet you!

About the Role

As our Facility Maintenance Technician, you'll be responsible for maintaining the physical condition, safety, and operational readiness of multiple Goldfish Swim School locations.

This position combines hands-on maintenance and repairs with preventative maintenance planning, troubleshooting, vendor coordination, and facility oversight. You'll work closely with school leadership to identify maintenance needs, respond to urgent issues, and ensure our facilities consistently meet company standards and regulatory requirements.

From maintaining pool equipment and HVAC systems to coordinating contractors and completing building repairs, you'll play an essential role in keeping our schools running smoothly.

What You'll Do

Pool & Aquatic Systems Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair pool equipment, including pumps, filtration systems, heaters, circulation systems, and chemical treatment equipment.
  • Monitor and resolve issues related to pool water chemistry, circulation, and water quality.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on pool mechanical systems to minimize equipment downtime and disruptions to school operations.
  • Diagnose and address HVAC and dehumidification issues specific to indoor aquatic environments, including fans, motors, and air handling systems.
  • Coordinate larger pool maintenance projects, including resurfacing, equipment replacements, and specialized repairs.
  • Ensure pool systems meet applicable health, safety, and water quality regulations.

General Facility Maintenance & Repairs

  • Conduct regular facility inspections to proactively identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform general building repairs, including plumbing, minor electrical work, drywall, painting, doors, fixtures, and other facility components within applicable licensing requirements.
  • Maintain and repair pool platforms, mechanical rooms, and other specialized facility equipment.
  • Address facility maintenance needs beyond routine janitorial services, including mineral and calcium buildup on fixtures, shower heads, and water fountains.
  • Develop and follow preventative maintenance schedules for building systems and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, troubleshooting issues and completing repairs efficiently to minimize operational disruptions.

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Identify, source, and coordinate qualified vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, maintenance, and improvement projects.
  • Schedule and oversee third-party services, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, and pool-related projects.
  • Review vendor proposals, service agreements, and completed work to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Determine when repairs can be completed internally versus when outside professional services are necessary.

Safety, Compliance & Operational Support

  • Conduct routine safety inspections and promptly address potential hazards.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and company safety standards.
  • Partner with General Managers, School Directors, and operations leadership to identify, prioritize, and resolve facility concerns.
  • Respond to urgent maintenance issues that may affect school operations, including occasional evenings or weekends when necessary.
  • Support facility improvement initiatives to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for swimmers, families, and team members.

Maintenance Planning & Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventative maintenance, work orders, equipment repairs, and vendor services.
  • Track maintenance expenses, manage supply inventories, and support facility maintenance budgeting across assigned locations.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs, improve equipment reliability, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Establish consistent maintenance procedures and best practices across locations.
  • Provide guidance and support to school management teams on routine facility maintenance and equipment concerns

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with aquatics facilities, specifically, strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in facility maintenance, building maintenance, or a related field; multi-site experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, or repairing pool equipment, aquatic systems, or similar mechanical systems preferred.
  • Ability to independently diagnose maintenance issues and perform a wide variety of hands-on repairs.
  • Experience coordinating external vendors, contractors, and specialized maintenance services.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize maintenance needs across multiple locations.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with school leadership and operations teams.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required or willingness to obtain certification within the first 90 days of employment at the cost of the employer.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for regular travel between assigned locations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or technical certifications in a related field preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding maintenance tasks.
  • Comfortable working in pool equipment rooms, mechanical spaces, and varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to safely work around pool chemicals and mechanical equipment while following established safety procedures.
  • Frequent travel between assigned Goldfish Swim School locations.
  • Flexibility to respond to occasional urgent maintenance needs outside standard business hours.

Compensation: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year

About Goldfish Swim School Franchising, LLC

Goldfish Swim School was founded in 2005 by husband and wife team Chris and Jenny McCuiston. Chris and Jenny took a concept that they formulated with nearly two years of research, and cultivated a business that provides results in the learn-to-swim environment that you simply can’t find anywhere else. Their proprietary curriculum and systems were developed after traveling the country in search of the “best practices” to teach babies and young children how to swim.

The first school, in Birmingham, Michigan, opened in 2006, and quickly saw success. Opening its doors with over 500 students at inception, Goldfish currently teaches more than 70,000 students per month across the franchise system.

At the beginning of 2008, it made sense to begin the franchising process. As of early 2017, we are currently in the process of expanding franchise opportunities throughout the country and internationally, with over 80 schools open or in development in more than 23 states and Canada.
