AQUATICS AEROBICS INSTRUCTOR - Shafter Aquatics Center

STATUS: PART-TIME (NON-EXEMPT)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aerobics Instructor will lead and supervise water aerobics classes at hours and times determined by pool management. Classes will focus on balance and coordination while increasing range of motion, joint flexibility, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness without causing strain. Instructor should be prepared to offer classes to a variety of age groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals, and groups
• Modify exercises to accommodate different skill levels, injuries, and physical limitations
• Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing participant performance and needs
• Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation
• Demonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence
• Friendly and courteous with participants and team members
• Ensuring a safe environment for all participants to avoid accidents or injuries
• Implementing the lesson plans in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion
• Ensure proper use and care of pool equipment and teaching aids
• Report any maintenance or safety issues to management
• All additional duties assigned by management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 2 years of teaching aquatics programs
• Strong swimming ability and knowledge of different swimming techniques
• Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
• Must be a team player
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, predominately after-school and weekends
• Current CPR/FIRST AID certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified period
• Currently or willing to become Red Cross certified
• Currently Certified as a Water Aerobics Instructor
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Passion for sports and athlete development

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high
• Must be able to move or lift lightweight equipment
• Position requires activity for extended periods of time
• While performing the duties of the job, the team member may work in outside weather conditions
• Minimal duties are performed in direct sunlight. Team member may be exposed to hot, wet, and humid conditions
