The APRN is a skilled healthcare provider who has completed an educational program that provides specialized certification and is regulated by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. An APRN manifests a high level of expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating actual and potential health problems of pediatric patients and their families. An APRN possesses an advanced knowledge level, skill, and competence in the provision of care to specific patient and family populations and serves across the care continuum as a clinical resource for patients, families, staff, and the community.
Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing.
National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the specialty of Pediatrics.
May have a certification as a Pediatric Nurse practitioner in either acute or primary care, although acute care is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Responsibilities:
Provide direct clinical services for patients according to established protocols and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards in collaboration with a physician.
Obtain patient health histories, complete physical examinations, and interpret hemodynamic data.
Document pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
Formulate and implement a treatment plan for the management of acute and chronic
illnesses in collaboration with the physician.
Document in medical records appropriately.
Provide family-centered care to meet the child’s health care needs.
Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
Participate in staff education and educate other APRN/PA students, residents, and/or fellows.
Provide leadership and professional interaction within your team or to team members.
Coordinate with families the care and progress of their child in person, by telephone, or by email as
appropriate.
Communicate with others with mutual respect and professional demeanor.
Adhere to all standard policies and procedures.
Participate in QI or research projects as deemed necessary by your department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
