Job Description

We’re seeking a dynamic professional to oversee the full apprentice lifecycle within Fleet Maintenance, from attraction and recruitment through to qualification, development, and long-term retention. This role plays a critical part in building our future workforce and addressing industry skills shortages.

You will establish and manage a pre-apprenticeship pathways program to create a strong trade pipeline, while driving initiatives that foster a diverse, inclusive, and values led culture. With a focus on holistic personal and professional development, you’ll ensure every apprentice is supported to grow, succeed, and build a strong foundation for their career.

Success in this role relies on exceptional relationship-building and partnership skills, working collaboratively across the organisation and with external stakeholders to champion an outstanding apprentice experience.

Salary Range: Band 6 - $116,089.00 - $128,453.00 per annum, 36.25 hr week plus 17.5% leave loading, plus 14% superannuation and access to flexible working arrangements

Our Business

Public Transport Services help keep Brisbane residents and visitors moving across our city. Our group operates and maintains one of the largest public transport fleets in Australia. Council’s  8 bus depots, spread across the city, ensure efficient operation of Council’s fleet. Maintenance has 8 bus garages providing onsite dedicated maintenance, cleaning and refueling, with Toowong Workshops providing a second line of fleet maintenance and delivery of projects.

The Role

This role leads the attraction, engagement and ongoing improvement of a culturally inclusive apprenticeship pathways program in Fleet Maintenance, providing guidance, mentoring and support to pre-apprentice participants and apprentices to help them achieve their development goals and reach their full potential.

The position also leads and coordinates projects, develops and manages strategic internal and external partnerships, strengthens stakeholder relationships, addresses barriers to attraction, retention and development, and delivers effective end-to-end processes aligned with Fleet Maintenance objectives and continuous improvement principles.

As part of this role, you will:

  • deliver performance excellence and a values-based culture, in line with capabilities in Council’s  Leadership Blueprint
  • proven experience designing, developing and facilitating pre‑trade programs and apprenticeship initiatives, with a strong focus on supporting organisations to grow and sustain their industry workforce
  • strong capability in building, maintaining and leveraging effective internal and external partnerships to influence positive change across vehicle maintenance and broader talent pipelines
  • well developed analytical skills, with the ability to identify, assess and respond to complex strategic workforce challenges, emerging trends and future opportunities to deliver practical, evidence based solutions
  • demonstrated experience identifying and recommending continuous improvement initiatives that respond to current and future workforce demand
  • sound project management expertise, enabling you to plan, coordinate and deliver initiatives that contribute to Public Transport Services’ future workforce and resourcing objectives
  • strong understanding of the importance of positive organisational culture, employee value proposition and engagement strategies in supporting workforce attraction and long term retention.
