The Maintenance Apprentice will be entailing specialized knowledge in all or some of the following categories; rotating equipment, boilers and thermal equipment, electrical and instrumentation. The Maintenance apprentice is a fundamental in supporting the overall Asset Management program and will contribute to reliability and performance metrics. This level requires familiarity with equipment, procedures, products and the risk and safety issues associated with the job and environment.

SCOPE:

  1. Reports to the Plant Manager
  2. Work assignments are performed under supervision until proficiency is demonstrated and then independently using standard techniques
  3. Contributes to documenting maintenance activities in CMMS
  4. Takes initiative to get work done with little direction from supervisor
  5. Vision – < 1 month

TEAM WORK & PROFESSIONALISM

  • Provides minimal guidance, direction and training to others
  • Works well as a team member, sharing responsibility for tasks or objectives and communicates routinely with individuals and/or groups to exchange, verify and coordinate information. Acts as a technical maintenance resource to operations team.
  • Engages professionally with contractors and ensures a high level of quality and accountability on services provided
  • Open to regular coaching and feedback
  • Is professional and courteous in interactions with others
  • An ambassador for Synagro’s brand and image

PROBLEM SOLVING & JUDGEMENT

  • Decisions made affect the quality of work, welfare of others, timeliness of operation and degree of customer service.
  • Applies solid working knowledge and experience to solve moderate problems
  • Demonstrates successful troubleshooting techniques and repair estimates on equipment
  • Shows insight into the root cause of problems and generates solutions

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

  1. Has exposure to varying EHS processes, terminology and equipment
  2. Applies acquired EHS knowledge across all areas of work
  3. Proficient resource for standards/regulatory applications in areas of work
  4. Accurately and independently identifies less obvious hazards and non-conformances and recommends solutions
  5. Provides input on safety and quality standards, reports incidents and assists with investigations when appropriate

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • 3-6 years experience in a maintenance related role
  • Eligible for apprentice program under journeyman millwright
  • Always demonstrate safe work behaviors and perform their job in a safe manner
  • Able to effectively and accurately complete work orders, material requests, incident reports, fit for duty and other documentation
  • Disassemble, inspect, report and re-assemble various types of dewatering equipment, conveyors, pumps, and grinders.
  • Perform preventative, corrective and emergency mechanical maintenance on equipment
  • Maintain tools in good condition and proper placement after every job.
  • Ability to operate a forklift considered an asset
  • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity
  • Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating and uneven surfaces utilizing ladders when necessary
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg loads from ground periodically
  • Ability to access confined spaces general cleaning and inspections
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends shift work if required

$35.00 - $40.00 per hour pay range
