Job Description:

Hitachi Energy Ireland is seeking a motivated Apprentice Service Electrician to join our growing Service team. This four-year apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to develop skills across low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) electrical systems while working on critical power infrastructure throughout Ireland.

Unlike a traditional electrical apprenticeship focused primarily on installation work, this programme is service-oriented and provides exposure to power transformers, substations, switchgear, protection systems, grid infrastructure, asset maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer support activities.

The successful candidate will ultimately develop into a High Voltage Service Engineer capable of supporting Ireland's electricity transmission and distribution network.

As part of the apprenticeship, you'll be enrolled in the following courses: Year 1 – Electrical Foundations course, Year 2 – Service and Maintenance, Year 3 – Advanced Field Engineering and Year 4 – High Voltage Specialisation

How you'll make an impact:

  • Assist with maintenance and servicing of High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage equipment
  • Support commissioning and testing activities
  • Participate in transformer inspections and diagnostics
  • Support substation maintenance activities
  • Assist with protection and control system testing
  • Learn fault-finding and troubleshooting techniques
  • Prepare service reports and technical documentation
  • Operate safely in accordance with Hitachi Energy HSE requirements
  • Participate in training blocks and competency assessments

Background:

  • Minimum A Level in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering subjects
  • Strong interest in electrical engineering and power systems
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to travel throughout Ireland - Full Driving Licence if required
  • Commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental standards
  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent
  • Interest in renewable energy and power transmission
