Apprentice Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems (m/f/d)

The Apprentice Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems support the High-Power Engineering Service department in the development, assembly, characterization, and validation of electronic assemblies and systems in the field of power electronics.

The objective of the apprenticeship is the systematic development of technical, methodological, and hands-on competencies, enabling the apprentice to progressively contribute independently to development, laboratory and service activities within a high-power environment.

Department Profile

The High Power Engineering Service department supports internal R&D teams in:

  • Definition, evaluation, and characterization of gate drivers for traction inverters
  • Development of solutions for automotive and industrial applications

The department also provides technical services, including:

  • Mechanical design and manufacturing
  • PCB layout and simulation
  • Setup and maintenance of laboratory infrastructure
  • Design and implementation of DC links
  • Development of complex measurement setups
  • Measurement automation and system programming

The department operates in high-voltage and high-power environments, combining hardware development, measurement technology, mechanical design, and system integration.

Tasks and Learning Scope during Apprenticeship

The apprentice will gradually be introduced to the following activities:

1 Electronics & Assembly

  • Assembly, population, and commissioning of electronic assemblies
  • Support in the development and testing of gate driver systems
  • Soldering (THT and SMD)
  • Troubleshooting and repair of electronic assemblies
  • Support in the characterization of power semiconductors

2 Measurement Technology & Laboratory Operations

  • Setup of test benches for high-voltage and high-current applications
  • Execution and documentation of measurements
  • Operation of oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, and electronic loads
  • Support in measurement automation (e.g., Python, LabVIEW or similar)
  • Contribution to maintenance and expansion of laboratory infrastructure
  • Compliance with high-voltage safety regulations

3 Mechanical Engineering & Prototyping

  • Support in mechanical design of test setups
  • Manufacturing of simple mechanical components using CNC machines
  • Assembly of test systems and enclosures
  • Contribution to the build-up of complete demonstrators and test systems

4 PCB & System Integration

  • Support in PCB layout activities
  • Assembly and testing of prototype PCB
  • Wiring of complex test benches
  • Integration of hardware into complete systems

With increasing experience

Qualifications

Technical

  • Good secondary school diploma (intermediate level or higher)
  • Strong interest in electronics, technology, and physical principles
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics and physics
  • Ideally initial hands-on experience (e.g. Python, Arduino, repairs, school projects)
