Job Purpose
To assist in cabin interior maintenance tasks such as seat removal/installation, panel fitment,
basic electrical cabin checks, upholstery work, painting/finishing, and cabin appearance
activities under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in cabin component removal, installation, adjustment, and inspection.
- Support upholstery tasks as per trade.
- Ensure safe tool handling, FOD prevention, and PPE compliance.
- Maintain documentation support for job cards and task sheets.
- Participate in shift briefings and skill‑development sessions/mentoring.
Trade‑Specific Responsibilities
Fitter (Mechanical)
- Assist with mechanical removal/installation of cabin components (seats, rails, bins,
panels) using appropriate tools and torque/fastener practices.
- Carry out basic measuring, drilling, reaming, deburring and fitment under supervision.
- Handle brackets, hinges, seat‑track hardware and galley/lavatory fittings as per job cards.
- Carry out routine checks and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure passenger
comfort and safety.
- Assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues related to cabin structures and systems
- Support turnaround activities, ensuring aircraft cabins are ready for the next flight.
- Ensure compliance with DGCA and airline standards for cabin maintenance
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to Air India Engineering safety procedures, PPE, and tool‑control policy at all times.
- Maintain FOD‑free areas; participate in safety briefings and report hazards/near‑misses
immediately.
- Perform only non‑licensed tasks under supervision.
Documentation
- Support completion of job cards/task sheets and basic materials/tool records as instructed.
Air India General - Internal use only
- Record daily learning/competency in apprentice logbook where applicable.
- Ensure traceability of removed/installed components in coordination with supervising staff.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Safety compliance (PPE, tool control, FOD) and zero major violations.
- Task accuracy and adherence to instructions/approved data.
- Timely completion of assigned work and documentation support.
- Demonstrated skill progression per trade logbook and mentor feedback.
Eligibility & Experience
- ITI with NTC/STC in Fitter.
- Freshers eligible; must not have completed any prior apprenticeship (as per Apprentices
Act).
- Age: 18+; medically fit for shop‑floor technical work; willing to work shifts.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to read simple technical instructions is desirable.
Important Notes
This is a 12‑month Apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961. This engagement is for
training and does not confer any right to employment. All work will be performed under
supervision in a CAR‑145 organization; apprentices have no CRS/sign‑off privileges.
