Job Description

We are looking for Board members with some particular skills who can contribute to the Board’s development and help it to adapt to the challenges and opportunities in the heritage buildings sector.

The Board is responsible for determining the overall vision, strategic aims and objectives of Historic Environment Scotland, in accordance with the statutory duties and within the policy and resource framework agreed with Scottish Ministers.

The Board has oversight and is ultimately responsible for stewardship and performance of the organisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Appointees are responsible for:
  • ensuring that the public body delivers its functions in accordance with Scottish Ministers’ policies and priorities
  • providing strategic leadership
  • ensuring financial stewardship
  • holding the Chief Executive and senior management team to account

Skills/Experience Required

Priority criteria – You must demonstrate one of these with experience in:

1. Finance, audit and oversight

2. ICT/Digital programmes and operational leadership

3. People leadership and organisational change/re-design

4. Board governance

5. Heritage buildings sector

Essential criteria – You must demonstrate all of these:

1. Challenging the views of others in a constructive and supportive way.

2. Seeing the ‘bigger picture'

3. Communicating effectively

4. Personal commitment and enthusiasm for Scotland’s historic environment

REMUNERATION AND TIME COMMITMENT

Remuneration for this appointment is £308 per day. Reasonable travel and subsistence, childcare and carer receipted expenses incurred will be reimbursed. This role is non-pensionable.

The average time commitment is approximately two days per month.

SECURITY CHECKS

Successful candidates must complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), before they can be appointed. BPSS is comprised of four main pre-employment checks – Identity, Right to work, Employment History and a Criminal Record check (unspent convictions).
