The NHS Borders Board is looking for a new Non-Executive member to join its Board. We are looking for one member with experience gained within the NHS setting to add to the existing skills of the Board.
Patients are at the centre of everything we do in our daily working lives at NHS Borders. Ensuring they are safe, cared for efficiently and effectively by suitably experienced and qualified staff driving quality at the heart of patient care. We aim for an open and honest culture and believe in nurturing future stars in the NHS. In line with health systems across Scotland and the UK, NHS Borders has and continues to face a number of challenges associated with changing demographics, societal expectations and technologies within a fixed resource. The Board and Executive Team is therefore facing a significant leadership challenge to deliver significant service and workforce change that results in the creation of a long term sustainable service for our population.
Having a diverse Board improves decision making and builds a vibrant and creative environment which is responsive to the changing demands on the health and care system and the needs of all the communities which we serve. We welcome applications from the widest possible range of people, who meet the requirements of the role as set out in the person specification and who can bring wide and varied perspectives to our work.
Although the role we are seeking to fill requires particular experience, the candidate appointed will also be expected to make a full contribution to the work of the Board, including participation in its various governance committees and the Health & Social Care Partnership’s Integration Joint Board.
You will be offered the training you need to make a strong contribution.
Remuneration and time commitment The remuneration for this is based on the requirements for one day (8 hours) per week at £312 per day. The rate is £16.224 per annum, which is non-pensionable. This remuneration will rise to £342 per day in April 2027. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
Location The Board Headquarters is on the Borders General Hospital campus, Melrose, TD6 9BS. The expectation is that there will be a blend of virtual and physical meetings and a physical presence will be required to be able to carry out the full range of Board activities across the Borders region.
Interviews Interviews will be held on 4 August 2026 at Borders General Hospital campus, Melrose, TD6 9BS.
It is unlikely that we will be able to offer an alternative interview date.
