Applied AI Data Scientist- Commercial Operations (Gen AI & Automation)

As an Applied AI Data Scientist supporting the Americas Commercial Operations team, you will play a key role in designing and deploying AI-driven solutions that improve how the business operates and makes decisions. This role is ideal for a hands-on AI practitioner who wants to move beyond experimentation and into production-grade AI, while growing toward greater technical influence and future leadership responsibility.

In this role, you will design, build, and deploy AI agents and intelligent automation solutions, starting with report automation and evolving toward AI-powered decision-support tools such as copilots and workflow orchestrators. You will partner closely with Commercial Operations stakeholders and internal Centers of Excellence to understand business needs, propose AI solutions, and take full ownership of delivery from development through production support.

While this position does not initially manage people, it offers strong growth potential Over time, the role is expected to contribute to defining best practices for AI agent development within the organization and may evolve to include technical mentorship or team leadership as the AI capability scales.

In this role, a typical day will include:

• Collaborating with Commercial Operations and COE stakeholders to understand business problems and identify AI opportunities

• Designing and building AI agents and intelligent automation workflows, starting with report automation and evolving toward decision-support copilots

• Deploying AI solutions to production and owning monitoring, performance, and drift detection

• Translating technical progress, limitations, and trade-offs into clear insights for non-technical audiences

• Contributing to documentation, governance, and responsible AI practices.
  

What you Will bring to Alcon:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.

• Experience: 3+ years in computer science, Data Science or related field.
  - Proven experience designing and deploying data-driven or AI solutions beyond experimentation, including exposure to production environments.
  - Experience working closely with business or operational stakeholders to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Technical Skills:
  -AWS Services. Demonstrated experience building, deploying or maintaining data science projects.
  -Experience with LLM-based systems and agent frameworks
  -Familiarity with prompt design, orchestration patterns, and evaluation of generative system.
  - Coding Languages: SQL, Python, and Natural Language Processing.
  -Data Modeling and long-term solution designs.
• Soft Skills:
  -Communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  -Problem-solving ability.
  -Strong attention to detail and collaboration.
  -Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces with evolving requirements.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  -Interest in system-level thinking and long-term solution design.
  -Experience in Pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, or regulated industries.
  -Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices.
  -Exposure to broader AI or machine learning techniques beyond agents.
