Position Summary
The Medium Voltage Buck Application Engineer is an outstanding opportunity to allow technically minded engineers to broaden their system engineering skills and application knowledge, while partnering closely with our local sales organization, focusing on Data Center end equipment supports customers in designing, validating, optimizing, troubleshooting quality and applications related issues on power solutions for high-performance server and infrastructure applications. This role requires strong technical depth in power conversion and system-level integration, along with a high level of on-site customer engagement to accelerate design cycles, resolve issues in real time, and strengthen customer adoption of TI solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide deep hands-on debug support for power architecture, converter performance, schematic implementation, component selection, PCB layout, thermal behavior, efficiency, transient, ripple and EMI
- Support Data Center customers in the design, validation, and optimization of medium voltage buck regulator solutions used in server, storage, networking, and related end equipment
- Deliver heavy on-site customer support, including time in customer labs and design locations to troubleshoot issues, support bring-up, and accelerate design-in activity, customer board validation, and characterization on customer site and/or on TI lab.
- Partner directly with customers’ power, system, and hardware design teams to understand application requirements and translate them into effective TI-based solutions
- Develop reference designs, lab data, application notes, testing guidance, and technical collateral relevant to Data Center power applications
- Evaluate customer boards and systems to identify power design issues, validate buck performance, and recommend improvements in schematic design, layout, component selection, thermal behavior, and overall application robustness
- Ability to influence customer design decisions and drive the system changes needed to optimize the performance of TI power devices.
- Work closely with design, systems, product marketing, quality, and field teams to resolve escalations and improve product positioning
- Feed customer system insights back into product definition, validation priorities, and future roadmap discussions
- Support new product introductions by validating use cases and enabling internal and external teams on key application advantages
- Deliver technical presentations and design reviews for both customer and internal stakeholders
- Support the sales team by providing the training course, technical guidance, joining customer discussions, helping position TI solutions against application requirements, and contributing to design-in success at key accounts
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Strong experience in analog and power design, at least 5 years of experience
- Strong knowledge of DC/DC conversion, switching regulators, and buck converter applications
- Experience debugging hardware in lab environments and interpreting switching waveforms, efficiency data, thermal results, and stability behavior
- Ability to work directly with customer engineering teams on complex technical issues
- Willingness and ability to provide heavy on-site support at customer locations as business needs require
- Strong communication (English and Mandarin), collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Preferred qualifications:
- Experience supporting Data Center or enterprise power applications
- Familiarity with server or infrastructure power architectures, intermediate bus conversion, point-of-load regulation, power distribution challenges, and PMBus/AVSBus protocols.
- Strong understanding of loop stability, transient performance, EMI/EMC, thermal optimization, Jitter, Ripple/Noise and PCB layout for switching power supplies
- Experience in semiconductor applications engineering, systems engineering, or customer-facing field support
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams using customer and application insight
- Proficiency in simulation & software tools including SIMPLIS, Power SI, Flotherm, OrCAD, Allegro, Mathcad and FPGA tools
