Position Overview:

The incumbent will be responsible for providing customers with professional and safe equipment deliveries, product demonstrations, and training with respect to the operation and maintenance of Caterpillar products. Provided industry specific training from the manufacturer, they are capable of understanding the customer’s unique application, and communicating best operating practices to ensure customers are maximizing machine efficiencies & driving total value. The individual will play a key role in optimizing customer’s safety and productivity, through expert knowledge of the equipment, the latest new features, as well as key on board technology.

Internal accountabilities include educating sales and service teams on machine performance, capabilities and configuration. They are key contributors to internal safety goals by validating trainers for internal Authorization to Move Equipment programs.

The anticipated salary range is between 100-110K. Actual salary will be based on the successful candidates experience.

Job Description:

Conducting customer delivery and demonstration orientations

  • Developing customized training plans based on application, operator experience levels, and equipment type.
  • Accountable for introducing customers to all features of the machine, including ensuring customers know the location of how to operate all safety related components on the machine.
  • Accountable for showcasing on-board technology and teaching customers how enable and delivering best practices. As well as reviewing all daily maintenance checkpoints and performance capabilities.
  • Point of contact for customer on training opportunities

Training customer operators

  • Identify and coordinate training opportunities with customers
  • Generating incremental revenue by training customers on technology integration, application best practices and train the trainer programs to better serve our customers.
  • Assessing operator competencies and recommending area’s of improvement for customers

Supporting sales functions

  • Subject matter experts on application and best practices when using Caterpillar equipment
  • Supporting sales teams with product focused training, configuration input and verifying fleet requests from customers. Collaborating with Caterpillar on machine development and machine performance capabilities
  • Recommending and executing on small sales groups product and application training

Supporting internal operations teams

  • Supporting safety on validating and educating on safe practices for moving and loading machines in shops and yards. Liaising between Caterpillar and NEP shops on calibrations and implementation of new machine technology while also showing prep teams how a machine should perform prior to delivery.
  • Supporting operations leaders in identifying and training individuals to do practical assessments for ATME (Authorization to Move Equipment)

Specific Skills:

  • Strong machine performance and application understanding, with the ability to identify areas and techniques to improve jobsite efficiency.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, internally and with Caterpillar.
  • Experience in leading and directing conversations with various levels in the customer organization– up to senior management.
  • Effective time management skills to plan and organize multiple directives within a short period of time.
  • Highly skilled at operating construction, forestry and/or mining equipment
  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of our customers, their businesses and their specific machine application requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of machine configurations required for specific applications
  • Developing leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence change with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Presentation skills for small to medium sized groups

Knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding of construction and mining earthmoving applications with the ability recognize and re-enforce or correct techniques customers are using
  • Knowing the right equipment to recommend based on the variables of the jobsite
  • Strong understanding of traditional Caterpillar Mining and Construction equipment, along with competitive offerings
  • Demonstrated understanding of existing and incoming technologies related to construction/mining equipment

Education & Experience:

  • 10+ year heavy equipment operating experience showing growth in responsibilities
  • Experience leading groups of people considered an asset
  • Proven leadership skills when training / mentoring new equipment operators
  • Ability to study and understand new concepts in short period
  • Technical aptitude
  • Understanding and ability to interact with new technologies
  • Experience managing customer relations considered an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft office
