Job Description

What to Expect

Join Tesla Energy’s Residential Product Management and Application Engineering team in shaping the future of distributed energy systems. We’re looking for a degree-qualified, driven, motivated, and collaborative engineer to join us and be at the heart of our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) strategy – driving the performance, reliability, and optimization of our APAC Powerwall fleet.

In this role, you will dive deep into fleet-wide data, troubleshoot issues, and develop solutions to enhance the customer experience. You'll collaborate with various internal teams, such as, technical support and software/firmware engineering as well as, our energy partners, to identify and address challenges, build resilient, scalable solutions, advocate for product improvements, and enable smarter, more robust fleet operations.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on systems thinking, data-driven decision-making, and long-term product vision. Your work will directly influence how Tesla’s residential energy products deliver value—both at scale and in real-world conditions.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct end-to-end health and performance monitoring of the Powerwall fleet and troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and firmware issues impacting Tesla's Residential Energy customers.
  • Partner with energy providers to design, validate, and optimize fleet grouping and operation strategies.
  • Contribute to the creation of documentation and external/internal training materials for the commissioning, operation, repair, and service of Tesla's Residential aggregation platforms and expected operation of aggregated assets.
  • Develop internal software tools and dashboards to improve efficiency and reporting.
  • Analyse fleet data and create insightful reports to track performance and identify trends.
  • Provide expert support on escalated customer cases to minimize fleet downtime.
  • Determine the root cause of aggregation platform failures and drive improvements through design, and software/firmware.

What You’ll Bring

  • Graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Engineering degree in Electrical, Renewable Energy or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in an engineering role, in either energy systems, energy providers, power electronics or fleet operations (solar + battery storage is desirable).
  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles with a computer science background. Experience with large-scale data analytics (Python, SQL) and an understanding of firmware/software-enabled systems is a must.
  • Strong understanding of grid-tied energy systems, battery management systems (BMS), inverter control logic, and VPP architecture.
  • Knowledge of relevant wiring, installation and product standards
  • Experienced in integrating AI tools to everyday business workflow
  • Demonstrates first principles reasoning to critically evaluate current processes, identify inefficiencies and campion systemic improvements.
  • Proactive problem-solver with an exceptional ability to prioritise, manage ambiguity, and execute across multiple high-impact initiatives simultaneously.
