Department Overview
The Platform Department develops and operates customer-facing services to ensure a more comfortable experience for credit card holders. Its mission is to define and implement requests from related departments concerning existing systems, as well as the designs and processes for new products and services. To meet these needs, the department collaborates with relevant teams and emphasizes high-agility development to deliver value quickly.

Why We Hire
Rakuten Card is currently advancing the lift-and-shift of existing systems to the cloud and strengthening collaboration between development and operations teams (i.e., DevOps). In tandem, the backend team is proactively leveraging AI and accelerating agile development. We are seeking application engineers to join our team during this period of transformation and contribute to the continued growth of Rakuten Card’s services.
Position Details
・Additional features for the Rakuten Card user-facing website and mobile application, and internal operational improvements
Responsible for the design, development, and testing of the APIs that support these
・Consistently leverage AI during development to improve productivity, security, and quality
・Potential to collaborate with offshore development members, including Rakuten FinTech Vietnam and Rakuten India
Work Environment
API development team involves about 40 members.
Development is conducted in units of around 5 members.
※Includes offshore development and outsourcing in Vietnam.
Management is primarily composed of mid-career hires, and both new graduates and mid-career professionals are active contributors.
Mid-career employees come from diverse backgrounds, including systems integrators and software vendors.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of Java development experience (Java 8 or later version)
- Development experience using Java EE (especially JPA)
- Experience developing RESTful APIs
- Experience implementing quality improvements through automated testing and related practices
- Basic knowledge of using source control tools such as Git/GitHub
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Agile development
- Basic knowledge of UNIX/Linux-based servers
- Basic knowledge of databases and SQL
- Basic knowledge of networking (TCP/IP)
- Development experience using Git (GitHub/Bitbucket)
- Experience building and operating an API gateway
- Cloud lift-and-shift initiatives for assigned services and products
