Our client is a premier, multi-billion-dollar global industrial technology pioneer and market-leading infrastructure conglomerate. Operating across more than 100 countries, they engineer, manufacture, and integrate mission-critical power generation systems, thermal cooling solutions, and specialized industrial fluid/air handling setups for major data centers, energy networks, and heavy industrial facilities worldwide. To support their expanding power generation and critical infrastructure tender pipeline across Southeast Asia, they are seeking a detail-oriented, commercially astute
Application Engineer
.
The Application Engineer holds end-to-end technical execution and tender architectural accountability for generating highly competitive, commercially viable engineered proposals for power generation and data center infrastructure projects. Bridging commercial business development with engineering execution, this role evaluates client specifications, selects optimal hardware configurations (coolers, auxiliary power networks, customized gensets), negotiates with local/international OEM suppliers, and assists project execution teams during engineering design, quality inspection (ITPs/FAT/SAT), and site commissioning.
1. Tender Analysis, Proposal Architecture & Estimation
Feasibility & Specification Review:
Perform initial technical feasibility assessments on incoming Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and complex tender documents from data center, energy, and industrial clients.
Technical Compliance & Exception Mapping:
Interpret complex engineering project specifications, draft pre-award technical submissions, and identify scope exceptions to safeguard commercial margins.
Cost Optimization (PMU Sheets):
Formulate detailed project costing models, build pricing sheets, and assemble formal technical offers leveraging Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specs to meet strict bidding deadlines.
2. Supply Chain Sourcing & Vendor Alignment
Supplier Network Development:
Identify, evaluate, and expand a robust network of local and international suppliers to secure competitive component pricing and resilient supply options (establishing a minimum of 3 competitive offers per package).
OEM Coordination:
Interface directly with global equipment manufacturers to monitor production schedules, equipment configurations, and delivery lead times against contractual specifications.
3. Engineering Design, Customization & Project Support
Technical System Selection:
Size, select, and specify specialized mechanical and electrical equipment (including coolers, power generation auxiliaries, and custom skid modifications) tailored to site conditions and client standards.
Execution Support:
Collaborate with regional Engineering Services to produce accurate documentation, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), component schematics, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
Design Verification:
Conduct competent electrical and mechanical design verification for custom modifications, ensuring seamless operational integration.
4. Product Testing, Quality & ISO Compliance
Product Validation & Inspection:
Inspect, evaluate, and test specialized engineering equipment, sub-assemblies, and supplier deliverables to ensure compliance with quality standards, project output guarantees, and applicable international codes.
Quality Governance (ISO 9001):
Adhere strictly to ISO 9001 quality management workflows, mapping engineering processes, assisting in internal/external audits, and driving continuous process improvement (Kaizen).
Education & Technical Expertise
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
Domain Background:
2 to 5 years of active engineering experience in technical application engineering, proposal estimation, or project engineering within
power generation, industrial cooling, diesel/gas generator sets, or critical data center infrastructure
sectors.
Technical Skills:
Solid understanding of power generation systems, thermal management, auxiliary equipment, and electrical/mechanical schematic interpretation.
Key Competencies & Attributes
Costing & Analytical Acumen:
Strong proficiency in cost estimation modeling, Bill of Materials (BOM) creation, and Microsoft Excel data analytics.
Supplier Negotiation:
Demonstrated ability to liaise, negotiate, and qualify third-party OEM suppliers and specialized engineering vendors.
Quality Systems:
Familiarity with ISO 9001 frameworks, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) protocols.
Communication & Mobility:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English to interface with global Vice Presidents, regional project teams, and international suppliers. Willingness to travel periodically for vendor inspections and client technical presentations.
