The Application Developer at Spotless Brands (the "Company") is a key member of the IT department, responsible for both the development and ongoing support of the Company's portfolio of applications. This role combines hands-on software development with the operational expertise required to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-built solutions across all Company brands. The Application Developer is a vital resource in ensuring the operational integrity and continuous improvement of our applications landscape, including Point of Sale (POS), ERP/Accounting, HCM/HRIS, maintenance, marketing, back office, productivity, and collaboration systems. This individual will contribute to the full software development lifecycle while also serving as a skilled support resource — analyzing and resolving complex issues, driving system enhancements, and partnering with business stakeholders to ensure the efficiency and success of our business operations.

Essential Functions (Other Duties as Assigned)

  • Proactively identify opportunities for application optimization and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with application vendors for issue resolution and software updates, maintaining strong professional relationships.

Application Development

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software applications and enhancements in support of business requirements across all Company brands.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code using object-oriented programming principles in languages including C#, Java, and C++.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools using Python to improve operational efficiency and data workflows.
  • Lead the development and implementation of system enhancements and new functionalities to meet business requirements.
  • Build and maintain integrations between business applications, including POS, ERP, HCM/HRIS, and third-party platforms.

Database and Data Management

  • Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts across relational database platforms.
  • Support database design, schema management, and performance tuning in collaboration with the applications team.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of data pipelines and reporting solutions that support business intelligence needs.

Cloud and Infrastructure

  • Develop and deploy applications utilizing Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platforms, including compute, storage, and serverless services.
  • Apply basic networking knowledge (DNS, TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, load balancing) to support application connectivity, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate with the IT Infrastructure and Cybersecurity teams to ensure applications meet security and compliance standards.

Stakeholder Engagement and Project Management

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and enhance application functionality and performance.
  • Manage projects related to application upgrades, integrations, and new deployments, ensuring timely completion within budget.
  • Train and mentor junior developers and support analysts and end-users on application features and best practices.

Documentation

  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation on application configurations, processes, troubleshooting guides, design specifications, API documentation, and release notes.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development or application engineering.
  • Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages: C#, Java, or C++.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or data processing tasks.
  • Strong SQL skills including query writing, stored procedures, and database troubleshooting across platforms such as SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS cloud services.
  • Working knowledge of basic networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, VPN, and firewall configurations.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC), version control (Git), and Agile or Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience supporting or integrating with POS, ERP, or HCM/HRIS systems is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in the car wash or retail industry is a plus.
