The Nurse Practitioner (NP)/ Physician Assistant is a skilled member of the health team who provides medical and educational services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician, according to Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Protocol, and within the scope of the License in the State of Wisconsin.The Wound Care Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care, treatment, and management of patients with acute and chronic wounds. The NP works in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans aimed at promoting wound healing, preventing complications, and improving patient outcomes.Perform comprehensive wound assessments including size, depth, and tissue type.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as wound cultures, vascular studies, and labs.
Develop and implement evidence-based wound care treatment plans including dressings, debridement, and advanced therapies.
Manage comorbid conditions impacting wound healing, such as diabetes and vascular disease.
Educate patients and caregivers on wound care techniques, prevention strategies, and lifestyle modifications.
Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, nutritionists, and home health providers.
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatments as needed.
Document wound assessments, treatments, and outcomes accurately in electronic medical records.
Participate in wound care clinics, interdisciplinary rounds, and quality improvement projects.
Maintain compliance with infection control and safety standards.

Qualifications

Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.

Experience in wound care, dermatology, or vascular nursing preferred.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
National board certification as a Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C). Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult (ANP-C)
National certification in wound care (e.g., Wound Care Certified [WCC]) preferred.
Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
