Marshfield Medical Center is seeking a Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Marshfield, Wisconsin. The Surgical Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is a skilled member of the allied health care team who is qualified both academically and clinically to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. The Surgical Physician Assistant works within a cooperative unit, utilizing team effort with health care providers, co-workers, and the public to provide positive patient interaction.
Position Details
4, 10-hour shifts
Rotate between inpatient rounding, outpatient visits, consults/call, and surgery.
On average 2 surgeries per dayThe Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to patients with neurological conditions requiring surgical intervention. Working in collaboration with neurosurgeons, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team, the NP performs assessments, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, assists in surgical planning, manages pre- and post-operative care, and provides education and support to patients and families.Conduct comprehensive neurological and physical assessments of neurosurgical patients.
Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies such as CT, MRI, and labs.
Assist in formulating and implementing treatment plans in collaboration with neurosurgeons.
Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care, including wound management and neurological monitoring.
Perform procedures within scope of practice such as lumbar punctures, suturing, and incision and drainage.
Monitor patients in the ICU, step-down, and outpatient settings.
Participate in surgical rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
Assist with care coordination and discharge planning.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education related to neurosurgery.
This position also provides on-call coverage outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Qualifications
Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
If Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
Minimum 2 years of experience in neurosurgery, neurology, or critical care preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC), Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult (ANP-C)
Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
