The API Onboarding Engineer provides technical onboarding support and in-depth, technical guidance on complex APIs within Hapag-Lloyd’s standard API portfolio during the technical onboarding phase. Acting as a technical bridge between Hapag-Lloyd’s product teams and external technical stakeholders.
Furthermore, this role involves coordinating custom integration projects for global customers and partners. It ensures that custom integrations are designed and implemented in line with technical standards, architectural best practices, and business requirements, while being delivered on time and within scope.
The position combines advanced technical API expertise with strong communication skills and a customer focused mindset.
Serve as a technical expert and advisor to external parties for complex APIs within Hapag-Lloyd’s standard API portfolio.
Support external parties during the technical onboarding phase with advanced use cases and troubleshooting.
Act as the primary point of contact between developers and integration engineers on customer-/partner-side and Hapag-Lloyd’s product teams during integration projects.
Translate business requirements into clear technical integration plans and project roadmaps.
Ensure integration projects follow established API standards, security policies, and best practices.
Coordinate custom integration projects for global customers and partners from technical perspective and ensure high-quality delivery by overseeing testing, validation, documentation, and handover to operations/support teams.
Support solution design activities by providing integration expertise as needed.
Collaborate with engineering and product teams to improve API usability, consistency, and performance.
Qualifications:
BSc/MSc in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or equivalent experience in IT, maritime industry or international logistics company
Strong understanding of API technologies (e.g., REST, SOAP, GraphQL, event-based)
Confident use of authentication and authorization standards (e.g., JWT, OAuth2, OpenID Connect)
Proven experience with API specification standards (e.g., OpenAPI)
Strong communication skills and a customer focused mindset
Solid knowledge of integration patterns, error handling, and data transformation concepts.
Ability to analyse logs, API responses, and integration flows to troubleshoot issues.
Experience working with versioned APIs and backward compatibility considerations.
Excellent analytical skills and eagerness to learn
