Job Description

Data Edge is looking for an experienced API Engineer to design and produce API specifications, mock services, Postman collections, and integration contracts aligned with a Canonical Data Model.

The role will focus on REST API design, request and response modelling, mock server configuration, error handling scenarios, and API documentation. The API Engineer will work closely with Data Analysts, Data Modelers, architects, and integration teams to ensure that API designs are consistent, reusable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design RESTful APIs aligned with enterprise architecture, integration standards, and the Canonical Data Model.
• Create, maintain, and organise Postman collections for API testing, simulation, and documentation.
• Define API contracts, including URI structures, parameters, headers, request payloads, response payloads, and status codes.
• Model API operations including GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE.
• Design happy-path, validation, exception, and error-handling scenarios.
• Build and manage mock servers to support simulations, early testing, stakeholder validation, and development readiness.
• Collaborate with Data Analysts and Data Modelers to ensure API payloads reflect agreed canonical entities, attributes, and business definitions.
• Define and document API standards, integration patterns, naming conventions, versioning principles, and governance rules.
• Produce API documentation aligned with enterprise standards and implementation team requirements.
• Support technical discussions with architects, developers, business stakeholders, and integration teams.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong knowledge of REST API design principles and enterprise integration patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Postman, including collections, environments, mock servers, and API testing workflows.
• Experience defining API contracts and specifications.
• Good understanding of JSON and XML data modelling.
• Experience designing request and response structures, status codes, headers, parameters, and error responses.
• Understanding of API versioning, governance, naming standards, and documentation practices.
• Experience working on enterprise integration, system modernisation, or API-led transformation projects.
• Ability to work closely with data, architecture, and engineering teams.
• Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

• Experience with OpenAPI / Swagger specifications.
• Previous experience working with Canonical Data Models.
• Insurance domain experience.
• Experience with API Management platforms such as Apigee, Kong, Azure API Management, MuleSoft, or similar.
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and asynchronous integration patterns.
• Familiarity with microservices, cloud-native integration, or enterprise platform modernisation.

Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on API Engineer with strong REST API design experience and a good understanding of enterprise integration standards. They should be comfortable translating canonical data structures into clear API contracts, building mock services, and producing documentation that can be used by both technical and business stakeholders.

This role is best suited for someone who combines API design discipline, practical tooling experience, and the ability to collaborate closely with data and integration teams.
