The API Engineer will design, build, and maintain integration services that connect HR systems with the enterprise data warehouse. This role focuses on consuming third‑party HR system APIs, developing scalable internal APIs, optimizing data flows, and ensuring secure, reliable movement of sensitive employee data. The ideal candidate combines strong API engineering skills with experience across HRIS platforms, cloud ecosystems, and data ingestion pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain integration services and internal APIs that consume HR system APIs (e.g., Workday, UKG, SAP SuccessFactors, ADP, Oracle HCM, iCIMS).

• Build scalable, secure data ingestion pipelines supporting API polling, incremental loads, and event‑driven (webhook) integrations.

• Partner with HR, Data Engineering, and Analytics teams to understand data requirements and ensure timely, accurate data delivery.• Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth, SSO, token‑based access, service accounts).• Design resilient integrations that handle rate limits, retries, vendor schema changes, and platform constraints.• Create automated workflows supporting recurring HR data refreshes into the enterprise data warehouse.• Monitor API and integration performance; troubleshoot failures and ensure high availability and reliability.• Maintain documentation for APIs, data flows, schemas, and integration processes.• Ensure compliance with data privacy, governance, and security standards (GDPR, SOC2, HIPAA as applicable).• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.• 3+ years of experience developing REST or GraphQL APIs and integration services.• Strong proficiency in Python, Node.js, Java, or C# (one primary language required).• Experience integrating with HRIS platforms and handling HR‑specific data models.• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, API‑driven ingestion pipelines, and SQL.• Experience with API gateways or integration platforms (e.g., Azure API Management; MuleSoft or similar tools is a plus).• Understanding of secure data handling and identity management.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating Workday, UKG, SuccessFactors, ADP, Oracle HCM, or iCIMS via APIs, web services, webhooks, or middleware.• Background in data engineering, data modeling, or event‑driven architectures.• Experience with message queues (Kafka, Azure Event Hub, AWS SNS/SQS).• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployment workflows.• Knowledge of HR compliance frameworks and data retention standards.• Experience completing vendor sandbox testing and integration certification processes (especially for ATS platforms like iCIMS).
