Job Description

A lovely family based in Greenwich Village are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Part-Time Laundress / Household Assistant to support the smooth running of their home. The role supports the principals and their adult children, who regularly spend time at the family home. The family are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in caring for fine clothing and household linens, whilst also providing light household support and acting as the point of contact for contractors visiting the home.

This is a largely autonomous position, ideal for someone who enjoys working independently and is confident managing their own workload with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for the family's weekly laundry, ensuring all clothing and linens are impeccably cared for, ironed and returned to their appropriate places.

The schedule is ideally one full day per week (Tuesday preferred), although the family is open to structuring the position as two morning shifts for the right candidate. The workday would typically begin at approximately 8:00am to accommodate scheduled maintenance appointments.

The family employs a separate weekly cleaning team, therefore this is not a heavy housekeeping role. They are hoping to find someone seeking a long-term position who will become a trusted and valued part of the household.

Responsibilities

• Manage all laundry for a family, including washing, drying, folding and putting away clothing and household linens
• Provide exceptional care for fine garments, delicate fabrics and luxury linens, ensuring all clothing and bedding is ironed to a high standard
• Change bed linens as required and ensure all weekly laundry is completed during either one full working day or two morning shifts
• Carry out light household organisation and tidying, including organising cupboards and maintaining an orderly laundry area
• Receive contractors, provide access to the home and act as the principal's point of contact during maintenance visits
• Work independently, proactively managing priorities and maintaining exceptionally high standards throughout the home

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a laundress or housekeeper within a private household
• Exceptional laundry and ironing skills
• Experience caring for fine garments, luxury fabrics and household linens
• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
• Proactive and able to take ownership of responsibilities
• Professional, discreet and trustworthy
• Strong communication skills with fluent English
• Comfortable working around a small dog
• Looking for a long-term position

Requirements

• Legal to work in the United States
• Verifiable private household references
• Fluent spoken English (French speaker is a bonus)
• Able to work independently and manage priorities without close supervision
• Comfortable liaising with household contractors and service providers
• Available to begin as soon as possible
• Already living within a commutable distance of Manhattan

Salary and Benefits

The family is offering $35-$40/hour, depending on experience.
