Summary of Position:

This position is an itinerant position providing vision support services to early intervention and school age students throughout Chester County and surrounding areas. Candidate also to provide orientation & mobility (O&M) instruction to visually impaired students.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Required:

  1. Conduct functional vision assessments
  2. Consult with families so they can understand the students' specific strengths and need and can help support student's travel skills.
  3. Consult with school personnel to ensure supports and accommodations for students' safe travel throughout the school environments.
  4. Provide direct instruction in O&M based on the students' IEP goals.
  5. Develop Orientation & Mobility (O&M) IEP goals, including goals related to public transport and community travel for the blind students.
  6. Conduct O&M assessments for all children with visual impairments who are referred by the educational team through their designated LEA representative.

Preferred:

  1. Provides instruction in vision techniques and in the use of vision-related materials and devices including, but not limited to, visual efficiency skills, utilization of residual vision, concept and sensory development, spatial orientation, familiarization to environments, and utilization of tactile, visual and auditory maps
  2. Teaches students using curriculum, and instructional methods and techniques which enhance the student's ability to improve independent functioning
  3. Interpret implications of Visual Impairment to all members of the school community.
  4. Assure that the student has all educational materials in the appropriate media.
  5. Participate in the multidisciplinary team to develop IEP's and other similar documents.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's Degree strongly preferred
  • PA Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification required
  • Orientation & Mobility, ACVREP Certification required
  • Current police and child abuse and FBI Fingerprints required
  • Clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and federal government (conducted by CCIU upon hire.)

Salary 2026-27 School Year:

  • $62,155 to $89,730 - Instructional I Certification
  • $64,834 to $93,324 - Instructional II Certification
  • $69,353 to $101,911 - Master's Degree
  • $72,740 to $105,924 - Master's +15
  • $74,415 to $107,845 - Masters + 30

About Chester County Intermediate Unit

Created in 1971 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly, the Chester County Intermediate Unit is a regional educational service agency that exists to provide quality, cost-effective services to the community and its residents. The Chester County Intermediate Unit administers instructional, enrichment and administrative programs and services to Chester County’s 12 public school districts, and to over 45 private and parochial schools in the county. These programs include instructional, remedial and enrichment services for regular and special education students and career and technical education programs for secondary and post-secondary students. The CCIU provides direct instruction to over 5,000 students a year and support services to an additional 30,000 students a year.

In addition, the IU supports teachers, school administrators, school directors and school districts through a multitude of services, including, but not limited to: business and administrative services, communications services, technology services and human resources. The diversity of CCIU programs enables IU staff to interact with school district personnel at all levels and to maintain a cohesive educational network throughout Chester County.
