Are you an experienced welfare or agriculture professional with a Lead Auditor qualification and at least five years’ practical industry experience, looking to carry out animal welfare audits on behalf of NSF as a self‑employed independent contractor?

As an independent contractor you will carry out welfare audits across hatcheries and slaughter sites, with most audits taking place in the UK, EU and internationally. This type of role often suits those already undertaking independent auditing work for other certification bodies, or who balance auditing alongside another role.

Independent Contracting – How it works:

  • You share your availability, and audits are scheduled based on your availability, experience, species scope, and travel logistics

  • Work is offered on an ad hoc basis and varies throughout the year depending on programme needs

  • Independent contracting offers autonomy, flexibility, and the chance to shape your own workload

Including, but not limited to:

  • Conduct welfare audits across hatcheries and slaughter facilities

  • Review pre‑audit information, complete audits in line with scheme requirements

  • Produce accurate, comprehensive and timely written reports

  • Communicate findings clearly and professionally with suppliers and client representatives

  • Lead Auditor qualification (ISO) – mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience (Scheme requirement) in agriculture, poultry, red meat, hatchery or related welfare roles, with strong practical on‑farm experience (scheme requirement).

  • Strong understanding of welfare legislation and assurance schemes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to travel internationally and within the UK
  • Ability to travel independently to audit sites, including locations not accessible by public transport. A full UK driving licence is required to meet the travel needs of the role.
