Job Description

Reporting to the Chief of Police or his/her designee, the Animal Shelter Operations Manager is responsible for the care of animals at the Conroe Animal Shelter and the management of all staff on location. The position is responsible for day-to-day operations, budgeting, adoption program and coordinating veterinary services for a spay/neuter program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum five years of related working experience.
  • Supervisor/manager experience preferred.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's license or higher and insurable under our auto policy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience developing or implementing shelter enhancement programs.
  • Experience working with, or for, reputable rescue or foster programs.
  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
  • Patient, courteous, and work well and efficient under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work unscheduled hours, including long shifts, late hours, certain holidays and weekends. Assigned schedule may regularly include either a Saturday and/or Sunday.
  • Ability to drive, stand, bend, squat, walk and talk for up to eight-ten hours a day; ability to lift 50 lbs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force consistently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
