Job Description

Humanitas Research Hospital is looking for an Animal Technician for the Immunology in Cardiovascular Pathologies Lab, to join the cardiovascular research team led by Gianluigi Condorelli. You will contribute directly to the quality of preclinical studies by combining animal care, experimental precision, and reliable management of samples and data.

What you will do

• Monitor general condition, behavior, body weight, food and water intake, and other protocol-defined parameters on a daily basis.
• Apply score sheets, humane endpoints, and escalation criteria together with the designated veterinarian and study team.
• Manage animal acclimatization, identification, handling, environmental enrichment, and traceability in line with internal procedures.
• Prepare materials and equipment and support the pre-, intra-, and post-procedural phases of cardiovascular studies within the scope of documented training.
• Collect and manage biological samples and functional data, ensuring correct timing, labeling, and traceability.
• Complete clinical records, experimental logs, and databases accurately and promptly.
• Report anomalies or critical issues and contribute to the management of materials, equipment, SOPs, and operational checklists.

Who we are looking for

What matters most

• A technical or scientific diploma, or a degree in biology, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
• Practical experience, including internships, in an animal facility, preclinical laboratory, veterinary setting, or another regulated technical or scientific environment.
• Basic knowledge of animal welfare, biosafety, SOPs, and the 3Rs, or strong motivation to develop this knowledge during onboarding.
• Accuracy in following protocols and maintaining documentation, with confidence using records and digital tools.
• Good reading comprehension of scientific English and willingness to complete the required training before working independently.

It would be an advantage to have

• One to three years of experience in an animal facility or preclinical laboratory.
• Experience with in vivo cardiovascular models and species relevant to the research programs.
• Hands-on experience with anesthesia and analgesia under supervision, perioperative monitoring, sampling, necropsy, or tissue collection.
• Familiarity with cardiovascular endpoints, data acquisition software, LIMS/ELN systems, or facility databases.

Skills you can contribute and develop

• Low-stress handling and clinical and behavioral monitoring of animals.
• Preparation of sterile or aseptic setups, materials, medicines, and basic equipment.
• Support for authorized procedures, supervised anesthesia and analgesia, recovery, and sample collection.
• Accurate management of samples and data, with close attention to timing, labeling, archiving, and anomalies.
• Progressive familiarity with physiological parameters, hemodynamic measurements, imaging, and other project-specific cardiovascular endpoints.
