Staff Non-exemptThe Animal Caretaker is responsible for the monitoring and care of animals and supports the Biology, Psychology, Animal Behavior, and Neuroscience Programs. Animal care at Bucknell is a necessary and critical component that allows Bucknell to be in full compliance with Federal Regulations regarding animal housing and care.
Job Duties:
Reports to the Animal Caretaker Manager.
This position requires an on-campus presence.
Exposure to laboratory animals and their waste products.
This is non-exempt (hourly), non-benefits eligible job.
Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
Hours of work approximately 10 - 20 hours per week.
Routine cleaning of cages and living spaces.
Animal handling, feeding and food preparation.
Monitoring of food and liquid intake.
Provision of adequate environmental enrichment.
Early detection of signs of illness, injury, pregnancy, or abnormalities in physiology or behavior.
Keep records of day-to-day animal care (e.g. including feeding, cleaning, health checks.

Ability to communicate with clarity and professionalism.
Comfortable using email, Microsoft Word and Excel
Some immunizations are preferred.
Previous experience and training in animal care and husbandry and other cleaning tasks.
AALAS certification at any level is preferred.
Knowledge of animal care within the context of biomedical research or veterinary care.
Able to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
Able to push and pull carts without accommodation.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
