Classification: Seasonal
Hours: 40hrs/week from mid-May through mid-October (7 AM - 4 PM)
Pay Rate: $15.40/hour
This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of six months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date.

Summary:
This Animal Care Assistant supports the daily care of a variety of bird species through cleaning, enrichment, and observation. This position also participates in tours and keeper talks to help connect guests to our mission of inspiring, educating and engaging people to serve as lifelong stewards for the conservation of animals and their habitats.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Provide daily, hands-on animal care including feeding, cleaning, medicating, enrichment, and maintaining animal habitats and surrounding areas.
- Closely observe animal behavior and condition, documenting and communicating notable changes or concerns to the Supervisor.
- Assist with routine animal health procedures as needed.
- Help create a positive learning environment by supporting interns, volunteers, and student shadows, including assisting with tours and informal talks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong communication and organizational skills with a close attention to detail.
- Understanding of safe workplace practices for the animals, employees, and visitors.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of animal husbandry practices, especially relating to birds.
- Experience with operant conditioning.
- Ability to speak to both small and large groups.

Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.
Working Conditions/Physical Effort:
- Regularly lift up to 50 pounds using safe techniques.
- Highly physical environment.
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments that may include varied temperatures and weather conditions.
