Job Description

Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs and reports on various types of emission monitoring equipment including CEMS, GC's and other gas process applications. Repairs and maintains a variety of analytical equipment, multi-stream process GC's, process analyzers, air analyzers and water quality analyzers. Maintains and manages analyzer spare parts inventory including calibration gas cylinders. Provide data logs, maintain records and report as necessary to the Health, Safety, and Environmental Department. Develops, improves and implements analyzer PMs.

Location/Travel Information:

This position is based at the Terminal Facility, LQF, or PTF, with travel to off-site locations as required. This position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license at all times in order to perform the essential functions of the job.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and adjust critical analyzers, gas chromatography, infrared and ultraviolet detection technology, emissions monitoring, oxygen measurement, PH measurement, moisture/dew point measurement, vapor pressure measurements, and environmentally required analyzers, CEMS, flares, etc.
  • Make periodic preventative maintenance inspections of analytical instrumentation, diagnosing existing or potential trouble; clean, lubricate, calibrate and adjusts as conditions indicate. Keep accurate records, make verbal and written reports of work performed.
  • Perform troubleshooting and program changes of analyzer control software
  • Perform analyzer system modifications and overhauls
  • Accountable for the day-to-day Analyzer Maintenance functions associated with the Safe, Reliable and Efficient operation of the Freeport LNG Plant, including all regulatory requirements.
  • Accountable for assisting in determining warehouse stock requirements and recommended inventory levels.
  • Assist in evaluating bids and provide advice to line organizations of the best value regarding onsite and off-site repairs, including materials procurement.
  • Provide technical advice/support to Maintenance, Operations and Engineering Support TEAMS as requested.
  • Must participate in the "on call" rotation for holidays and weekends

Essential Functions:

  • The safe use of a wide variety of hand and power tools, electronic and electric test equipment as related to field and shop work and safe work practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and maintenance ability when working on PH conductivity, moisture, total sulfur, CO2, SO2, Oxygen analyzers and gas chromatographs, including daily validations, peak shifting and plugging in the sample system
  • Weekly pressure checks for gas/liquid standards, and replacement when needed.
  • Tubing installation and bending techniques, understanding and reading Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID) and FC oven PFDs
  • Being able to ascend and descend a barrel ladder with continuous vertical length of up to 35 feet.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver an 80 Ib. cylinder.
  • Ability to direct and participate in the inspection & testing of completed work ensuring quality & conformity to prescribed standards.
  • Ability to ensure company standards, codes of practice and procedures and work permit procedures are compiled with.
  • Able to develop appropriate maintenance procedures using vendor O&M manuals or BIC practices.
  • Must be able to read, understand and adhere to HSE policies, including SDS systems.
  • Must be experienced in the use of test equipment and communication devices used in calibration and measurement including Volt meters, leak detectors, PC equipment including software such as analyzer software GC8000.
  • Ability to update drawings and analyzer scheduled maintenance procedures following the completion of minor instrument changes and modifications on Analyzers.
  • Ability to write technical reports and compile data to the EPA/TCEQ/FREC/DOT based on permitted environmental requirements.
  • Must possess the ability to drive a motor vehicle in order to perform the duties required at all FLNG locations.
  • Regular daily attendance is required

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum Education Required: High School Graduate or GED equivalent

Minimum Experience Required: 5+ years of related analyzer experience with a solid understanding of process safety and instrument and electrical safety concepts

Preferred Education: Associate's degree in Instrument Technology and/or equivalent training with certifications in the process analytical field including gas chromatography and is familiar with continuous emission monitoring analyzers

Preferred Experience: 7+ years of experience in the Petroleum or Natural Gas Industry

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be experienced in the use of PC equipment and software including SAP, Windows and MS Office products
  • Must have good mechanical background
  • Good written/verbal technical communication skills
  • Ability to provide clear work instruction to others
  • Ability to receive and follow work instructions from supervisors
  • Active learner, Self-starter/motivated
  • Troubleshooting/analytical skills with the ability to logically work through process problems and upsets
  • Ability to develop and follow operation procedures
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID and PFD drawings
  • Ability to work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
  • Strong commitment to HSE with the ability to inspire and lead others

HSE Roles and Responsibilities:

Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.

  • Must be able to wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job duties
  • Operates in an industrial plant environment
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions
  • Not necessarily protected from weather and temperature changes. Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy weather conditions
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits
  • Exposure to constant, or intermittent sounds of a pitch level sufficient to cause marked distraction
  • Routinely uses standard office and field communications equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/ scanner, fax, and radios.

  • Ability to drive to other Company work locations as required
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility
  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift
  • The incumbent is required to use hands to fingers, handle or fee; and reach with hands and arms
  • Physically able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, pull, push, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 Ibs. without assistance.
  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions/ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this role, the incumbent will be required to talk and hear.
  • May be required to enter confined spaces
  • May be required to work at elevated heights
