
The cell and gene analytical technologies team (CGAT) within Vertex cell and genetic therapies (VCGT) isseeking an individual for 12-month contract who can serve as a key contributor in expanding our testingcapabilities and supporting routine analytical activities. The ideal candidate will have experience with a range ofcell-based and plate-based analytical methods, strong troubleshooting skills, and a thorough understanding ofSOPs and report documentation. Extensive hands-on experience with cell therapies is preferred. This scientistwill collaborate and coordinate across cross-functional teams, including Process Development, Manufacturing,and Quality, to support the development of Cell and Gene Therapy processes and products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Actively involve in routine testing to support process development and characterization and release assaysfor identity, potency, genome profiling and impurities for Vertex preclinical, clinical and next generationcell therapy programs.• Perform sample testing for analytical development team by using a variety of techniques; (e.g. plate-basedpotency, Flow Cytometry, Cell culture, ELISA, MSD, PCR, residual impurity characterization, RNAprofiling, Nanostring.• Support Wednesday to Sunday with occasional weekdays, and second shift/late evening coverageas required for process and analytical development teams on several assays as required and flexible totravel between sites within 2.0 mile distance.• Report on project progress and reports or present data effectively at internal group or project teammeetings as needed.• Responsible for shipment handling and receiving samples and reagents within and outside of Vertex.• Manage and track inventory for samples and reagents as needed for several projects.• Participate in a data management activity to ensure timely completion of deliverables.• Be a strong team player contributing to group priorities and deliverables.• Maintain excellent written documentation of completed experiment (ELN) and maintain knowledgeshare systems (MS-Teams and share points).• Ability to follow and understand SOPs and review protocols or reports as needed along with goodanalytical understanding for data interpretation.• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education level and/or relevant experience(s):
Required: (Graduate in Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or relateddiscipline) Ph.D graduate or +1 year (or equivalent degree), MS with 2-3years experience, BS with 5-7 years’ experience.Preferred: Relevant industry experience in biologics or cell and gene therapy space.
Knowledge and skills:
Required:• Possesses excellent pipetting skills.• Possess standard lab safety regulations and work in GLP like laboratoryenvironment• Has experience with molecular and plate-based techniques related to cell andgene therapy like Flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD, PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, Cellcounting methods, Cell culture techniques etc.• Has excellent communication skills and is effectively able to workcollaboratively with cross-functional teams• Ability to utilize Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word to perform tasks asassigned.• Able to perform successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handlingmultiple projects or priorities within required timelines.
Preferred:• Industry experience in cell and gene therapy space.• Experience with sample management and ELN systems.• Experience working with pluripotent/hematopoietic stem cells.
Contract Length: 12 months, with the chance to extend.
$50/hr. - $55/hr.
Wednesday to Sunday with occasional weekdays, and second shift/late evening coverageas required.
