BCI is looking for an Analyst, Private Equity Operations.
In this position you'll play a central role in the reporting workstream of Private Equity Finance Operations, executing the quarterly valuations cycle, supporting audit and SOC1 activities, and turning portfolio data into decision-ready insights for internal and external stakeholders.
We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in accounting — ideally including audit or Big 4 public accounting experience — who's comfortable working at the intersection of investment accounting, financial reporting, and risk management.
If you have a CPA designation or Big 4 background, along with an appetite for AI-enabled workflows and automation, this role offers the chance to bring that rigour to a fast-growing global private equity portfolio while sharpening your expertise in fund structures, valuations, and reporting.
Reporting to an Associate, the Analyst, Private Equity Operations plays a key role in the reporting workstream of Private Equity Finance Operations, and is responsible for executing the quarterly valuations cycle, internal and portfolio reporting, and audit and SOC1 support activities. The Analyst executes fund and principal valuation calculations, validates fees, carried interest, and commitment data, and prepares internal reporting that turns portfolio data into decision-ready insights. The Analyst adopts and contributes to AI-enabled workflows and automation that strengthens the accuracy and efficiency of the reporting process, collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners.
The Private Equity department manages a diverse global portfolio of approximately $36 billion in global private equity investments comprising of fund, direct and co-investments. Portfolio growth over the coming years will be driven by an increased emphasis on direct investment, strong partner relationships and actively creating value from the portfolio to deliver superior returns for our clients.
Our department currently consists of ~65 professionals spanning offices located in Victoria, London and New York City, organized into six sub-teams: Direct Investments, Fund Investments, Venture & Growth, Portfolio Performance, Reporting & Analytics, and Operations. Our Direct Investments team can be further broken down into six sector-focused teams that cover the Financial and Business Services, Consumer, Healthcare, Industrials, Technology, Media & Communications and Capital Solutions.
Must have:
Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related discipline
3-5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or investment operations
Experience in accounting, including audit, financial reporting, or valuations
Proficiency in investment accounting and financial reporting
Familiarity with SOC1 requirements and risk management
Working knowledge of finance operations
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Demonstrated aptitude with data and automation tools, including advanced Excel and AI-assisted workflows
Ability to independently execute core financial workflows with accuracy
Proactive in identifying inefficiencies and suggesting improvements
Preferred:
Working knowledge of private equity fund structures
CPA designation or Big 4 public accounting experience considered an asset
Experience with large language models (LLMs), Databricks, and accounting systems
Applied experience in financial modelling and Excel-based quantitative analysis that draws on accounting and finance expertise
Executes quarterly fund and principal valuation calculations with oversight from Associates
Supports the review of external manager and third-party valuation reports and reconciles conclusions to the book of record
Maintains fee, carried interest, and unfunded and commitment tracking in alignment with SOC1 requirements
Prepares internal and portfolio reporting deliverables with accuracy and timeliness
Executes data capture, validation, and analysis to support reporting insights
Supports external audit requests and the application of appropriate accounting treatment within the book of record
Adopts AI-enabled workflows and automation and contributes to their ongoing improvement
Collaborates with the Private Equity Finance Analytics team on dashboards and data quality
Identifies inefficiencies in reporting workflows and recommends improvements
This role will be based in our headquarters in downtown Victoria, BC. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1 day a week.
The annualized salary range for this Victoria based role is CAD $80,000 - $95,000.
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
