The Opportunity
We’re looking to fill an Analyst, Operational Risk position at RFA Bank of Canada!
The Analyst, Operational Risk is responsible for independently supporting the Director in ensuring that the Board and Senior Management have full insight into the operational risk profile of the Bank. The candidate will provide effective challenge, analysis, and advisory support to Business and Functional Units to identify, assess, monitor and report on operational risks. This is achieved through the establishment, maintenance and enhancement of an operational risk management framework governing the Bank’s existing activities and processes as well as any prospective business or other changes.

As the Analyst, Operational Risk you will:

• Executes the Bank’s Risk and Control Self-assessment (RCSA) process with Business and Functional Units, including providing challenge.
• Conducts and supports the analysis of root causes of operational risk events (OREs) including the quantification of near misses, identification of themes, and escalation of significant issues, as appropriate.
• Monitors and challenges the tracking of action items and target dates to address any identified gaps arising from RCSAs, internal audit and external audit findings, risks arising from business or other changes, root causes of operational risk events, and emerging risks
• Together with the Director, supports the management and enhancement of the Bank’s risk management systems/tools, including workflow and system design, implementation, testing, change management and, documentation.
• As an ORM team member, provides oversight to the application of enterprise risk management policies and standards.
• Supporting the Director, prepares and delivers operational risk reporting and analysis on a detailed or aggregated/Bank-level basis to the Director, Operational Risk, CRO, senior management, or the Board and its committees on the operational risk profile, including compliance with risk limits, reporting on key risk indicators and operational risk events, and emerging trends
• Fosters a culture of collaboration, integrity, compliance, and internal control throughout the Bank
• Advises Business and Functional Units on the interpretation and application of ERM’s operational risk framework development and implementation and may assists in training related activities.
• Makes a significant and effective contribution to the planning and execution of the Operational Risk Team ERM mandate through robust delivery, credible challenge and enhancement recommendations.
• Provides thought leadership (impact and influence) to other colleagues within the Bank’s ERM department.
• Acts as a trusted partner and risk advisor to Business and Functional Units
What You’ll Need to Succeed
• At least 3 to 4 years of relevant work experience in risk management, internal control, audit, or compliance, including meaningful operational risk experience in a Federally Regulated Financial Institution (FRFI), with preference given to candidates with experience working with a similar sized FRFI involved in mortgage lending and deposit taking activities.
• Knowledge and understanding of ORM & ERM policies and practices, including risk appetite framework, and regulatory requirements related to the Bank’s activities
• Bachelors’ Degree in related discipline
• Current or progression towards risk certification is an asset.

• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior management.
