The Analyst, Infrastructure role is an exciting opportunity for an early-career investment professional to gain broad exposure across the full infrastructure investment lifecycle, including new investment evaluation, asset management, and portfolio management. In this role, you will support the assessment of prospective investments through financial modelling, market research, valuation analysis, and due diligence, while also contributing to the ongoing monitoring and value creation of existing portfolio investments. You will work closely with senior investment professionals and cross-functional internal teams to prepare investment materials, analyze portfolio performance, track market developments, and support strategic decision-making. This role is well suited to someone with strong analytical and financial skills, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine interest in infrastructure investing and institutional asset management.
Build and work with complex dynamic financial models utilized in the assessment, structuring, and financing of investment opportunities
Identify key value drivers and financial risks, performing sensitivity and scenario analyses to evaluate potential impacts
Benchmark valuations through research on comparable public companies and precedent transactions
Develop a view on the appropriate return commensurate with the risks embedded in the underwritten business plan
Assist in the due diligence process and incorporate the findings into a financial model
Participate in or guide key due diligence workstreams conducted on investment opportunities, including coordination and review of the work performed by third-party advisors (commercial, technical, legal, financing, accounting, tax, environmental, etc.)
Prepare due diligence and market research analyses for discussion with senior investment professionals
Assess the pertinent factors of potential investment opportunities, including historical and projected financial information, strategic positioning and value proposition, industry dynamics, regulatory environment, etc.
Prepare presentations, memos, and investment recommendations for the various approval processes required while pursuing new investment opportunities
Communicate investment findings and recommendations clearly through investment memoranda and approval materials, outlining key risks, expected returns, and detailed market and asset-level considerations
Support ongoing oversight, performance monitoring, and value-creation initiatives for portfolio investments
Prepare various ad hoc analyses of portfolio companies’ performance and trajectories
Gain exposure to governance processes by observing board and limited partner advisory committee meetings
Collaborate with portfolio company management to develop and maintain financial models used for valuation, performance monitoring, and strategic decision-making
Develop and evaluate business cases for portfolio company value-creation initiatives (e.g., debt refinancings, expansion projects, management compensation, etc.)
Assist with the analysis of add-on investments, divestitures, and refinancing opportunities
Lead the preparation of recurring and ad hoc asset class reports and presentations (e.g., quarterly client updates, CIO reports, internal and external presentations, etc.)
Work with senior investment professionals to track the infrastructure pipeline of new opportunities
Conduct research and develop action plans on matters affecting existing investments, including those relating to tax, regulation, law, and competitive position
Stay up to date on pertinent industry developments and publications and disseminate relevant information to the rest of the investment team
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as Asset Management, Investment Risk Management, Client Management, Legal, Valuations, Sustainable Investing, Compliance, Economics & Investment Research, Tax, Communications, Investment Performance & Analytics, and other corporate functions
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field; completion or demonstrated pursuit of a Professional Designation (e.g., CFA, CPA, CBV, CAIA, etc.) or a master’s degree in a relevant field is considered an asset
One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience; prior experience in Investment Banking, Equity Research, Project Finance, Management Consulting, Investment Management, Transaction Services, Accounting, Corporate Finance, or Business Development within an operating company is an asset
Experience in the infrastructure and/or energy sectors is considered an asset
Demonstrated interest and experience in investing and analyzing businesses across various sectors and geographies, with a keen enthusiasm to deepen understanding of institutional infrastructure investments
Strong understanding of finance, accounting, and business concepts, sound judgement, excellent analytical, quantitative, and research skills, and an ability to perform in-depth, critical analysis
Prior experience in complex financial modelling, asset valuation, and presentation building is highly regarded
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive under high-pressure situations to meet strict deadlines
Proactive, detail-oriented, with the ability to balance multiple priorities
Highly resilient with a proven ability to adapt quickly and shift priorities in response to changing business needs
Possesses a positive outlook, even in challenging situations, and exhibits a strong commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a demonstrated ability to influence others and present effectively to senior-level audiences
Strong interpersonal skills and a team player attitude; able to build effective relationships
Self-motivated with unquestioned personal and professional integrity
Advanced skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; prior work-related or academic experience using Bloomberg, Capital IQ, or FactSet is viewed favorably
Demonstrates a willingness to further their education through the pursuit of a professional designation (or has already started one) is considered an asset
Willingness and availability to travel both domestically and internationally as required
Working proficiency in a second language is considered an asset
