What you'll be doing
The Energy, Infrastructure & Transition (EIT) team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients across midstream and upstream energy, renewable and conventional power, utilities, infrastructure, energy transition, and climate technology. With a global coverage strategy spanning North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia, we deliver a client-focused approach that combines mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and financial advisory services with access to debt, equity, and loan capital markets, as well as complex risk management and hedging solutions. As an Analyst, Energy, Infrastructure and Transition, Global Investment Banking, you'll support transaction execution, client relationship management, industry and company research, and the overall communication flow across our global offices. Working with guidance from senior team members, you'll contribute to assignments that have a direct impact on our business and gain exposure to senior executives and boards of directors. Based in Calgary, you'll be part of a team that supports a broad range of energy and infrastructure clients through strategic advice, capital raising, and corporate finance advisory services.

How you'll succeed
Research and analysis - Conduct industry research and quantitative analysis to support the identification and assessment of investment banking opportunities. Develop financial analysis and help translate findings into clear insights and recommendations for clients and internal stakeholders.
Client materials - Support the preparation of client proposals, pitchbooks, and other presentation materials for new and existing mandates. Prepare industry and financial analysis to contribute to thoughtful, well-supported client recommendations.
Financial modeling - Develop and audit sophisticated financial models to support transaction execution, valuation work, and strategic analysis.
Relationship building - Build your internal and external network by supporting client-focused and deal-focused brainstorming sessions with relevant team members and product specialists. Develop relationships across CIBC's product groups and communicate effectively with clients and other external stakeholders.
Due diligence - Assist with company due diligence activities by gathering, reviewing, and organizing information to support transaction execution and decision-making.
Team support - Support senior investment banking team members in day-to-day execution activities and help maintain the group's databases and materials in an accurate and current state.
Who you are
You have a degree in commerce, business, finance, economics, or a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) related field. It’s an asset if you have a master's degree in a related discipline.
You can demonstrate experience in capital markets, investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, project finance, tax equity, or investment analysis through work experience, academic coursework, or extracurricular involvement. It’s an asset if you have direct experience in investment banking or knowledge of the power, renewables, utilities, infrastructure, midstream, or energy transition sectors.
You give meaning to data. You have strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and return analysis. You also bring knowledge of accounting principles related to financial statement preparation and business combinations.
You’re goal oriented. You’re highly motivated, accountable, and able to take on meaningful responsibility in a fast-paced environment. You’re driven by the opportunity to help solve complex financial and strategic challenges for clients.
You can demonstrate experience in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and financial market data tools. It’s an asset if you have experience with FactSet, Bloomberg, or other relevant industry software.
