Job Description

The Analyst is responsible for coordinating and executing analytical studies. This includes performing customer load data analysis, assessing the impact of renewable energy resources on the power grid, and any ad hoc analyses and special projects as assigned by the supervisor, providing flexible analytical support to address emerging business needs. The Analyst will perform a key role in submitting daily meter values to the NYISO market in support of the Metering Authority role at Con Edison. This responsibility involves utilizing various meter software applications to accurately track inventory and load data and working with multiple Con Edisons teams to troubleshoot metering issues. The Analyst will work with the Forecasting Services team to develop new and innovative regression analysis techniques for weather adjusted peaks. These insights will support the optimization of the companys long-term infrastructure investments. This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage or perform regression analysis, data manipulations, data scrubbing, and forecasting for electric, gas, and steam commodities.
  • Evaluate Value Stack of Distributed Energy Resources, energy efficiency programs, demand response programs, solar, electric vehicles, distributed generation, voltage reductions, and battery storage to determine their impact on the Forecast and the Weather Adjusted Peak of all commodities.
  • Submit meter data to NYISO on a daily basis and interface with NYISO Market Customer Settlement team.
  • Deliver presentations on forecasting matters; and represent the Company at meetings with the NYISO, New York State Public Service Commission, New York City governmental agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Interface with Steam Operations, Gas Operations, and System Operation (The Energy Control Center and Transmission Planning) on daily and long-term operational matters that can impact models and studies conducted by Forecasting Services.
  • Interface with Energy Markets Policy, Regulatory Law, Strategic Planning, Energy Efficiency/REV, Meter Engineering, Meter Shop, PST, and IT.
  • Learn our proprietary methods of gas, electric, and steam load forecasting, model production, statistical calibration and maintenance.
  • Help maintain and develop the different data processing tools (data processing scripts, databases, and forecast deliveries).
  • Manipulate and analyze large datasets in the process of building models.
  • Perform any ad hoc analysis, special projects, related tasks as assigned by the supervisor, including independently learning any software necessary to complete the work.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of TWO years of work experience and demonstrated value-added assignments in multiple organizations Knowledge of data analytics, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and programing language experience. or
  • Master's Degree and a minimum of ONE year of work experience and demonstrated value-added assignments in multiple organizations Knowledge of data analytics, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and programing language experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of TWO years of work experience and demonstrated value-added assignments in multiple organizations Knowledge of data analytics, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and programing language experience.
  • Master's Degree Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of ONE year of work experience and demonstrated value-added assignments in multiple organizations Knowledge of data analytics, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and programing language experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Microsoft Office Applications: Expertise in Excel, Power Point, and Word, required.
  • Knowledge of the Electric grid, energy systems and understanding of DERs, preferred
  • Experience in using one of the following programming languages: Python, SAS, R, SQL, VBA and/or any commercial statistical package systems, preferred
  • Knowledge of energy forecasting, econometric modeling, energy market policy and NYS regulations and initiatives is preferred.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills, required.
  • Working knowledge of internal systems such as: Pl, Asset Framework, MV90, MDMS, EDAP, MAMS, and PowerClerk is preferred.
  • Software project management skills including utilizing web application testing software such as Microsoft Azure DevOps is preferred.
  • Energy Forecasting: Experience in peak demand and energy load forecasting in either electric, gas, or steam is preferred.
  • Strong presentation skills preferred.

Additional Physical Demands

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must perform wire guard duty/site safety during storm emergencies.
  • Must be able and willing to travel and drive occasionally to areas within the CECONY and ORU service territories and Albany, NY
